The top cases are new also. They mount a lot better (stronger) then the old. They are a lot bigger. It well hold a full face helmet. Maybe two.

The trunk will hold one helmet with it expanded. The new mount is strong but light. No steel supports needed and it doesn't hop. My SO says the back rest option was a good buy.

While it makes my 2012 GS look like an "old nail" - I'm going to wait for the hybrid ;-) I love that the clutch basket is up front and bolt on sub-frame. At the dealer, the whole package appeared to be a big step up the performance food chain. The guy who was dead set on a Multistrda may have to take a second look at the new GS.

Your 2012 is worthless on a trade?
What about people with 2007 (like me) or 2005?

He probably means it is worth less than or equal to what he owes on it. Trading it would not reduce the principal of the new loan. Although considering that the price is about the same as the old one, I'm not sure that is such a big deal.

So does the new top case mount directly on the stock rack or is there a mounting plate required?

The top case does need a mounting plate (not included with the trunk). Here is a pic of the rack and the bottom of the case, and another of the inside of the case in the lowered position. I bought the expandable liners for the bags and trunk and like the system so far.

Lol yeah. Like $7k less!

Thought these things were supposed to hold value? Lol

I should clarify. The dealer quoted me $7k less than what i paid for it less than a year ago for trade lol. Guess I'll be sticking with the "old" one a little longer.

Big discussion.
Vehicles loose immediately a big chunk of their cost, then the rate slows down. People take immediately the price of the taxes out, extra costs (registration etc.) they don't care you paid, even extras (so loading half the TT catalog may help selling the bike, will not be included in the cost though).

Now specifically about BMW GS. BMW bikes were traditionally bikes that indeed held their value. Both because of quality and because they were actually rare. Now R1200GS has changed both. Quality is good (not so good to some, but I disagree, esp. for the engine that is what matters), but the world is STUFFED with them nowadays. So as a widespread consumer good... tough luck.

In my local GS forum, the admin advised me to not even put an ad to sell my bike on the forum as "nothing is moving" (we have the crisis on top you see).

The left side Vario case will hold a Helmet WITH a cardio attached and still a little room when expanded.
