I understand as I am in the same boat. I solved my "problem" by adding a DRZ400 and a KTM 50 to the garage. Now I get to ride almost every Sunday afternoon for a few hours at the track with my boy! I still managed to ride 12,000 miles on my GS last year by going on a few three day weekends, riding to work when it was nice and by going on a one week ride last summer.

Well, I'm a stay-at-home dad, so my free-time is usually late at night. And I didn't ride at night much even before the kids came along. My issue isn't the risk as much as the lack of time to ride.

When the boy gets a bit older, I'll find a little 50 for him to play with and maybe get a big dirt bike for me.

You can always be on the lookout for used aersotich (or other) smallest size clothing. This is a 34S or 36S, and has worked wonders for the kids as they have grown:

I was lucky,my dad rode,my mom rode some,my sister raced horses at full speed,mom was an aerobatic rated pilot as was dad.
Nobody got hurt much,everybody had a good time.

Shame to stop doing what you love for a non guaranteed safety.

I didn't get back into biking until the boy was 14. Got him a TTR125 and me a YZ250 and a Vstrom 1000.

I rode motocross when I was a kid but I didn't like the idea of the boy doing do or die supercross. Once you commit to a big hairy jump it is either right or it is wrong and they crash.

We did long bicycle rides when he was little. That was a lot of fun.

I started with one of these. Then he rode his bike as soon as he got off the training wheels which was the day after Joey across the street got his off, pressure of competition.

I found that I could fold up the lower legs (the snap closure was handy):



Even made the catalogue a few times!




But, she's older now, and they don't need to be folded up anymore.

Been riding for many years with the boy.... strapped in the back with the sleeping bags and tent. At 15 he still wants to plan a trip on the back, with me... First ride at 4 years old... well first ride was on a scooter in Bermuda at 3 years old if that counts as two wheels!
