Service Schedule

Took delivery of my new 2013 990 Baja. Can someone explain the service intervals listed in the manual? K10N,K75A,K150A,K300A. I'm from Alabama,just don't understand. Thanks for any info.

I dont recall them from memory but i am pretty sure that there is a legend (explanations) on the lower left of each page at the owners manual.

Page 65 for example here (large pdf file inside)

Basically KTM requires a service every 7500km. Every second one will be a big one, including valve check. The very first service should be done after 1000km.

So the scheme is

1.000km basic service (oil/filter/checking all srews etc)
7.500km small service (oil, filter, etc)
15.000 big service (6.5hours: oil, filter, valves, etc). Mainly the valve adjustment is very time consuming, because all the covers, tanks air box and injection unit needs to come off, to get access to the cylinder heads.
22.500km small service
30.000km a big one again

and so on...

The extreme service costs for the big service (~8.000 SEK = 1.200US$) were one argument besides others to sell the 990 and get the lighter 690 Enduro (10.000km service intervals). After the 2 year warranty period had expired, which binds you to let all service be done by an authorized mechanic, I did the small services myself, but with >20.000km a year service costs where still a big factor in the overall cost of ownership.

K10N = about 600 miles
K75A = about 4,600 miles
K150A = about 9,300 miles
K300A = about 18,600 miles

Change the engine oil and filter soon, like at 300 miles and again at 1000 miles. You be glad you did.
