One nice thing about fairings is you can spread all the electrical bits around within them. My Speed Triple presents a clean appearance from the sides, but if you need to get to the engine for pretty much anything, you need to pull the airbox, and it has the ECU and other miscellany spiderwebbed all over it, because that's practically the only enclosed spot on the bike. Then to run it for testing it you need to cobble the electronics back together while just sort of hanging in space.
