My meeting with a dbag in a blue Jag...

Two weeks ago on the quite residential road coming into my neighborhood, my Tiger and I had a run in with a jackass driving a Jag. Apparently a narrow busy two lane road with parking on both sides is the perfect place to crank your Jag up to 80 mph and come flying around the bend on the wrong side of the road... In a split second a quite day turned into being forced to swerve into a couple empty parking spaces to avoid the oncoming car and as I was not able to stop in time I plowed into the back end of a parked car...

Four days in the trauma ward, three surgeries (one to left shoulder, one to right foot and one to the right ankle) later and ten days recovering on the sofa watching crappy daytime TV later, I have made the decision to buy my Tiger back and rebuild her. Now I still have 6 months or so of P.T. to go before I can even think of going back to work, much less ride again. Anyhow the Tiger has no disastrous damage, just a long list of parts needed, that if bought new make her a total loss. After 18,000 miles together I am just too attached to her to let her possibly be parted out.

So here goes the biggest project of my life.

They have him and are working on thing. Apparently not having actually gotten hit by him makes the Cop's job harder... My lawyer is sharpening her teeth for him though.

Seems that another party acting badly, frequently results in a "single vehicle crash" for the rider. (I had an "off" three weeks ago when a pedestrian walked into traffic without looking -- I didn't touch him.)

Tiger doesn't look too bad. I had a Tiger 1050 for three years -- great bike. Lots of parts available on eBay. Make sure your frame is still in one piece, and none of your engine mounts have cracked. Second concern is forks. Third would be rear sub-frame. Fairings and bars are easy.

Best $200 gadget I have bought to insure against this. I wear it every day for just this occasion (and to prove cops wrong too).

Yes there were thankfully a good number of witnesses around and all stepped forward with statements to PD.

As a lawyer of almost 40 years I absolutely agree with you monkeythumpa. You will have them bloody [Australian legal term] dead to rights. Just make sure you are in the right when they are in the wrong. The video captures all and the GoPro image standard is outstanding.

That looks good wiseblood. If you got one would you be able to post some footage so we can see the quality of recording. I know the GoPro. It's brilliant but a looped recorder has obvious appeal and application for m/c riders in metropolitan areas and for highway transits.

The VIO POV recorders have a loop function.

Please replace the steering head bearings and cups even if they feel smooth. They have been known to lock up without warning from latent crash damage even if they feel smooth.

When a car does something like this there are 3 outcomes. Miss the car and stay up. Miss the car and crash. Crash into the car. The middle one hurts much less than the third one. You did very good.
