Buying a home west of Idaho Springs.

Working out of Golden, travel a lot...need sanctuary not suburbs....
Thoughts?

Evergreen! I have friends there and absolutely love that town. Close to everything with a mountain town feel.

Coal creek canyon might be a better option. Eldorado Springs might have interesting choices.

How far are you willing to commute?

The big issue is that inventory is at record lows.

This.

Mon-Fri probably wouldn't be bad, but you'd have a traffic cluster F. on the weekends. Not just on I-70, but all the yahoos trying to get around I-70 by driving through town.

Don't forget, starting next month they will be widening the Twin Tunnels. That means several blasts a day and 20-30 minute traffic stops. As we get farther into the summer, they will detour ALL eastbound traffic onto the frontage road around the tunnels for the duration. That will be a mess, at least for the summer.

I did 114 miles per day from Lawson (Winter Park exit Hwy 40) to Parker via I-70 and C-470. Loved living up there, hated the drive.

I'd rather do 70 than 25, that's for sure. Your drive wouldn't be as far as mine was, depending how far west of Idaho Springs you go.

Try looking up on the White Ranch / Golden Gate roads. A very pretty area, little traffic and a nice moto road to boot!

And I agree - I-70 sucks when its all jammed up.

I'd look around Gilpin. You could take 6 down the canyon. Nice properties, not too far from civilization.

There are some great homes in the Lookout Mountain and Genesee area as well.

I found a couple places in St. Mary's. Genesse is not in my budget.

Golden Commute

I am a highly biased fan of the mountains. I make it to the airport faster than people who live in Littleton and downtown Denver faster than the Highlands Ranch crowd and my backyard is full of elk and not other houses (plus no city taxes).

Weather is 10 degrees colder than DEN year round--and we get about 3 feet more snow. Winter is tougher than down the hill, but we have competent snow removal and drivers. The weather is great the other parts of the year and we don't need AC.

Don't know your price range, but $$ wise Evergreen in Clear Creek county is not too bad (JeffCo Evergreen is spendy) and as noted above Gilpin has some cool stuff as well.

Hope you find a great spot.

We have a 4 bedroom 2 bath hot tub on 1 acre in Conifer. Our tenants are moving out in April. The house is available for rent and possibly for sale. What are you looking for? PM me for details if interested.
