Anyone know why bearing (the large one) 33121468899 shows as 135.00 on Max BMW..but is not listed in the part's fiche for my 04 GSA..it shows part number 33121242210 for the bearing at 90.00??

Not a GS but 2000 R1100r. Just pulled rear drive out to service spline & pivot bearings and everything was OK. There was still enough lube on the spline & bearings so it didn't need to be done at this mileage, but I'd heard so many horrer stories that I thought I should check. Changed final drive oil a few small pieces of metal but nothing earth shaking. Bike has 51000 KM. I'm the second owner and the previous owner changed tranny & final drive fluid regularly.

No play at all in the rear end when trying to move tire at 3/9 or 6/12. I however was unable to remove the rear brake disk. Heating bolts didn't help either. Anybody else have this problem? Are they reverse threads?

My two cents worth. With respect to the pivot bearings. I think it would be benefical to periodically check the torgue on these especially the left side with the lock nut. If any play develops in these it will take the bearings out quickly.

I swapped out the main bearing in my 2000 1150GS final drive a few days ago. It had started to show perhaps a tad of side-side play, but the larger symptom was lots drag at low speed, and rumble at high speed. I must not have noticed it getting worse, until I swapped the transmission (input shaft buggered) and whatever noise/vibes the old trans had been hiding, the new one let come right through. Sort of a surging roll on, roll off of a rumble. And the drag, was like trail-braking.

With the new bearing, I'm amazed at how easily the bike simply rolls around, and no more surging rumbles on the highway. Wonderful to have my old bike back, feeling fast and ready.

On the big seal, I note it has two lips, and wonder how it stays lubed? Is it designed to let some oil slip past the inner lip to keep the outer lip lubed? Or can it run dry, once the thin film at installation wears away?

Pinion Gear Failure

Rode back from Palm Springs (almost) to Vancouver via Mexicali, Death Valley, Bishop, back up Pacific Coast Highway. Speedo went wonky in Bakersfield, then shift indicator failed mid coast. Bike was running well, but at stop short of Seattle heard a slight rear-end noise. AAA to Seattle then pinion gear bearings replaced along with sensors...gears ok. A week to get all the 'bits' needed and replaced at Ride West.

60000 km on a '06 GSA with mainly highway riding in Mexico. First issue with bike.

I am pissed, but what do you do? (Just ride some more!)

Did you check the shim/preload?!! That sounds like a lot of coin for maintenance...

+1 mine was actually shimmed too tight causing the inner race to wear on one side, mine was pitted badly but the cage was intact as was the seal. I think I got away for $174 for the repair in my front yard ;)

R1200RT Final Drive leak

My 2007 R1200RT with 34500 miles is leaking oil to the real wheel.

It seem that the SEAL is the one that failed and not the BEARINGS. I'm looking at the A&S parts and see a " 12 Shaft seal 60X75X8 1 33117679862 $17.85" but my bike is dry on that side. What I'm looking for is the seal on the other side. Also, I'm also not sure the correct amount of fluid needed to replace, some post mention 180cc or 220cc.

Any help, tips would be appreciated.

As you can see, the cover is dry.
