Question !976 Dt 250c Ignition???

I have a 1976 yamaha dt250c that the coil is bad and they are expensive. I need to replace the points and condenser too. I was wondering if there was any way to convert my bike to electronic ignition. I have 6 volt system now. Would it be price effective switching over to electronic ignition if there are parts avaliable. Does anyone have any parts that they are selling to help me out in this project. I have money for the parts. Thank you for any assitance.

if somebody makes one, it's more money than a new coil & points

any good coil will work

I recently started fixing up a 1974 rv125 suzuki with a 6 volt system.
It had a no spark issue and I determined the coil was bad, replaced it with a
12 v motorcycle coil from a early 80's suzuki. I used it because the
coil mounts were the same. It had 2 wires instead of 1. I hooked 1 wire to the positive wire and the other wire I grounded to the frame.
It worked fine.
Replace the points and condensor with new, they are probably available, and put
any coil on it that works, even a gm-delco car coil.

hmmmmm... I think the ignition system on the old DT is a magneto, but I could be wrong. if so a coil from a similar bike system would work, but a battery system coil has a higher primary... like between 3 & 10 ohms. a mag coil will be less than one ohm typically

what size flywheel puller do i need for this 1976 yamaha dt250 c enduro to remove the flywheel? Is it the left hand 27mm x 1mm threads?

Sorry I took so long to read this, but I had a 76 DT 250 with points ignition.

I bought a 79 or 80 model DT 250 for parts with CDI.

It was a straight forward swap of parts to change the 76 to CDI.

I just used the 80 coil and backing plate I think, CDI box and wiring harness.

Took me about half an hour.

cool i have to start looking for a parts bike then. Do you know what size the puller is to remove the flywheel

Do you know the part # on it if there is one and brand or where you got it at? Other wise do you have a micrometer to measure the threads
