great book for tourists

I just picked up a copy of Mike Hyde's 'Twisting Throttle New Zealand' and cannot think of a better guide book if you really want to explore the hidden gems of NZ's backroads.

Certainly - based on my knowledge of the lower half of the North Island and top half of the South Island - he's included some absolutely awesome roads/rides

I will definitely be taking it with me when I finally get off my bum and explore the areas I havenít been before

Laugh Yep it's a good read

I got this book about a month ago, and I agree it's a great book with some awesome rides in it.
I would highly recommend it.
Real good Xmas pressie for someone who rides.

Where can I buy the book?

Mikes website says the book is already out of print and are not sure if there will be a reprint.

I have Mike's Oz book, a good read. Meet Mike when he was running a M/C hire company out of CC about 6 years ago. Is he still involved in M/C hires?

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris

This book is much more about where the good rides are hidden (maps and distances etc) as opposed to the Aussie travelog book

Having read one or two of your ride reports I think it would be right up your alley.

I assume its available here http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/B...aland/21403877

if not email Mike

cheers

Mark

Even better, I could give you a guided tour of the íRising Sun Puketoií area on page 112, which heís quoted as one of the best North Island roads. If you like gravel riding, this is probably the largest area of gravel roads you can string together in the North.

My 2 cents worth,

I have both with me here in NZ, and have ridden most of the roads/tracks mentioned in both books, and others still not listed

If you can carry both, great!, but, IMO, Peter Mitchell's NZ Motorcycle Atlas is still the bible, even though it's 1st edition was in 2005.

Cheers

Chris

I'm doing this route next Monday/Tuesday, "The Rising Sun Puketoi "

Booked into the Lake Ferry hotel for New Years eve

Staying another day to recover, then on to Wellington.

Rising Sun Puketoi

I found this
http://de.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2382931

It will not be on our way because we travel from Napier to Tongariro and then on the SH 43 Forgotten Highway to New Plymouth to visit Mike and Leanne and the Mt. Taranaki

Seems I have to come to NZ in a few years again, to ride all that scenic roads and that marvellous gravels
