I've enjoyed the thread vey much. I make regular visits to the threads I like to track, and use the search function to follow up on questions I've got.

I rarely visit Thumpers anymore because of the clutter. No solution is perfect, but this makes sense to me.

It's true that some bikes come street legal or not depending on the country, but this is a relative minority. IMO better than splitting based on cc.

Riding and Renchin; All the stuff that makes this subforum great: riding, bike setup, repair (even the seemingly model-specific stuff). Since it can't be perfect, dump the tire and oil threads here too.

Those two are probably the two most intelligent proposals made in this thread. I spend most of my time in Thumpers in the TE610 mega-thread, and while I appreciate the collective wisdom, I hate the shitty search ability. Splitting it up by type of activity is not a bad way to go.

Having said that, what Leo is proposing just kind of lets everyone get on with it. We will all fall in line, as long as the segmentation isn't too fine-grained.

My two bob, for what it's worth (bugger all, most likely) i reckon 3 ways:
Two strokes
Racing thumpers
Adventure thumpers

A drz 400 thread all about setting up to race the safari, that's in racing. A drz 400 getting set up for an adventure ride up the cape, that's in adventure. Allows for mixing between the two forums, but hopefully less confusion as to where your thread goes. (Your klr question doesn't go in racing)

(Seriously, klr question, not in racing)

This seems like a good idea.

Just split it already and we'll adapt. Probably.

Since no one seems to interested in weighing in on this...... I'll chime in

To me at lest it is obvious that moving a factory or outsourcing parts of the production does not change the origin of the brand. A bike is what the name says regardless of where it was built. BMW, Husaberg, Husquarna, MZ, KTM, Aprilia, Gas Gas etc are European, Honda, Kawa, Yamaha and Suzuki are Asian.

Do you split on cc or the name of the model ?
I know BMW fucked up when naming their bikes, but a F650GS single is 652cc, the F650GS twin is 800cc and I know some folks, especially people who are new to our world, get confused, evident by a lot of misplaced threads the past few years.

Though spoonfed I throw this in the ring.

Singles

Smokers - 2 strokes
  • Street legal
  • Race bikes
Thumpers - 4 strokes

Street legal
  • - General thumper talk (not brand or model specific; comparisons, bearings, wheels, oils, painting plastic etc)
  • - BMW
  • - KTM
  • - HONDA
  • - Kawasaki
  • - Suzuki
  • - Yamaha
  • - Other makes

Race bikes

Looking at it now I see that the 4 stroke race bike subforum perhaps is not needed

If nothing else, the KLR deserves it's own forum and I mean that both respectfully and derisively.....seriously

for all the search complainers.....

This is how it's done:

Use SkyNet's superior data acquisition algorithms to get the information you seek before the robots kill us all.

the appropriate technique is as follows:

www.google.com
type "site:advrider.com boobs tires and oil" And you will only get results from ADV

example here:
