Baldy,

You have already used a format - see Regional forums, then a list of regions. Thumpers, then list as I suggested in post # 326.

Hey Baldy l'homme, My 2 cents are ...

Purleeze don't do anything which would result in creating lots of dead links to threads. This would be a disaster IMO as there are so many links on adv to Thumper threads that to lose these would be, well, baad! We've already lost attachments and that was bad but understandable.

I know when you created CSM, you just left existing JM posts where they were and that worked ok in the above respect.

Cheers

Main Forum: Thumpers

Sub forums:
4 stroke
2 stroke (Since you don't have a two stroke forum)

Sub Sub forum 4 stroke:
BMW
Honda
Husqvarna
Kawasaki
KTM
Suzuki
Yamaha
The Rest - Beta, ATK, GasGas, Husaberg, etc

Sub sub forum 2 Stroke:
All

Then get really crazy and make sub sub sub forums for popular models: (example)
Kawasaki
KLX250
KLR650
The rest

KTM
250
350
400/450
500/503/520/525/530
640/690

And so on for the rest of the manufacturers.

Then break up each model forum with topics selected by the users -

Thumpers > Kawasaki > KLR650 >
Technical:
Engine: Big Bore, DooHicky, clutch, carburation
Suspension: Shocks, Forks
Electrical: GPS, Heated Hand Grips, Lighting, Upgrades
Tires: Street, Dirt, Distance, Cheap
Comfort: Seats, foot pegs, handlebars, control levers
FAQ's: (as made up by the members)
Popular modifications and upgrades:
Known Issues and fixes:

Tech day gatherings:

My 2 cents.

How about leaving the Thumpers section alone except for adding a function whereby very old and unused threads can fall away. Open up new sections for specific things to move future traffic away from the main forum. Problem solving, technichal might be a way to entice people or give very popular machines their own section such as KTM, BMW, etc. Searching here is already difficult, I'd hate to see it get worse.

Do you use an external search engine? I find it makes searching easy.

How about an archve where a thread goes after a year without replies and gets locked?

PS. And please add smokers and electric bikes under the name of Thumpers. That would end the constant cry if they are in the right or wrong place.

The only question is what names deserve their own subforums. BMW, KTM, Husky, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha?[/QUOTE]

+1 best use of KISS principal.

2strokes DO have their own forum [ 2smokers ] and are NOT thumpers. Neither eclectic bikes.

hey, Guns Equal (XXXX edited not to offend, very provocative handle!)

sub forums have been tried on Thumper Talk ... a crappy site with nasty divisions between brands. Your idea has come up several times on this thread already ... read your history ... and while it has some good points, most posters here shot it down using Thumper Talk as their rationale.
It's divisive ... you know, like Gun Nuts vs. Gun Law "nuts".

I like the idea of deleting (or archiving) dead threads to open up more storage. I know Jo Momma and CS&R are popular here (a very sad comment on so called ADV riders) ... but I would vote FIRST for a motorcycle forum. Trim Jo Momma down, ask questions later.

I agree, Thumper Talk's format sucks.

I would like to see something like this forum (ignore the content and just focus in on the format).

It works well.

Depends on the subject matter. Too many threads cross multiple bikes to be easily classified.

They could be booted to other subforums, but then you are back to bouncing around a bunch of addresses.

Fortunately I'm using Tapatalk, so I can easily access the threads I'm interested, have participated on, and so on, with one or two actions. So I don't care as much if the powers that be break it in a gazillion sub or subsub or subsubsub forums.

seems like the DR650 thread is ridiculously huge. It should have it's own forum, no?

I've found myself going to drriders more often now, since it's so hard to wade through a thread with 78 thousands replies.

Or I use google "dr650 'then whatever i need' site:advrider.com"
