I was thinking of adapting the quick lock mechanism to my wolfman tank bag, is it the bag that is shit? or the quicklock mechanism? or both?

pretty much both...........the connection plates are plastic and the bag itself just looks and feels cheap......definitely not $350 worth

Yeah liked the idea but couldn't see the worth in it. Do you have a pic or two of the bag or a link so i can see if it's the same as what i'm thinking?

extremely disappointed........just proves to me never buy over the internet

Every one has the right to their own opinion, but Are you sure it is an SW-Motech / Bags Connection tank bag?
My experience with this product (third one on three bikes) is 180 degrees opposed to yours..

Check my review of this product and the system.

I have allways been happy with this and just about every other SW-M product.

Greg.

P.S - These are handled in Aus and NZ by MotorradGarage, was buying it overseas cheaper than from the local importer?

P.S2 - On reflection, I do recall the bolts securing the bag to the top receiver could have been slightly longer. It was a bit of a struggle to get the nuts on but I managed with persistence.

Whatever floats ya boat I spose.

My experience is exactly the opposite. It's a better made tank bag than BMW one that came with my first 1200. Why do you need a template? Just hold the plate up to the bag... there's your template. There's room to choose how far forward or back you like to have your bag.

The quick release system pisses all over the Wolfman tank bag (which is a well made item) on my KTM for quick access to refuel.

Choose the 12v ring and you get the best and simplest power supply to charge up phone/camera or whatever. Clearly no use to day trippers, but I rarely go on rides shorter than 1 week.

I've had mine for 30 months now and have done well over 30,000km of adv riding and not a hint of any weakness or trouble.

I'm not trying to talk you out your opinion... just giving the readers the benefit of my experience.

Yeah Hoopla was the first negative experience that i had come accross... therefore spark my interest as i had only heard good things about them.

yeah i'm not a fan of the straps on my wolfmanbag (does the job.... but!) and was going to adapt one of these quick locks to it instead.

The Bags Connection tank bag has a stiffened base which I'm guessing is an important part of the whole system working so well. Maybe a bag with a soft base (like the Wolfman) won't work so well. Not sure.

yes its definitely a Bags Connection Tank Bag complete with the SW Motech Paperwork. I'll Post Pics tonight.

as for hold up the PLASTIC connectors to get your template......err yeh thought about that but the recommended 5.5mm drill bit is larger than the holes on the template and the base being black I dont usually have a white pen handy to mark the "spot".

cheers

Put a smaller bit through first then you can drill to 5.5

Yeah i had an idea for this.... and that is to make plastic/perspex moulded to the tank shape and to fix the bag to.

A mate of mine tried that.

Version 1 had the acrylic board quite a smaller than the base of the bag... result - same as when a fat arse sits on small stool, lots of overhang .
Version 2 had the (2nd) acrylic board same/similar size to the bag... result - the whole thing looked just wrong, perched up in the air, not following the contours of the tank.
Version 3 was much like version 1 except arcylic board fitted inside of bag... result kinda looks OK with bag following lines of the tank but he has to 'lift the flaps' to clip the bag in place, something you don't have to do with the Bags Connection kit. I can see he has some slight abrasion damage to the tank paint nowadays because the bag only lightly rests on the tank and dirt/dust gets between the two.

Your moulding idea should get the right result.

Slight hijack... sorry Hoopla.

BTW: I did have the white marker handy, and did the pilot hole thing too.
