Fossil Creek Rd. - FR 708 Information

I am working on a dual sport trip plan for central Arizona and was wondering if any locals knew the current status of the Fossil Creek Rd. (Forest Rd. 708) from Strawberry to just east of Camp Verde. We tried to ride this road last year in May and it was closed due to rock slides and construction, so just wondering if repairs have been made and this road is back open again or if it is still closed.

Thanks in advance for any local information on this!

Looks like the Strawberry side is currently closed and scheduled to reopen April 15. For an up-to-date information recording, call the Fossil Creek Hotline at 928-226-4611.

Thanks for that information! We'll give them a call.

Any idea what they are doing on the road? Repairs from rock damage?

I think that Strawberry side has been closed since last Feb for road repairs from rock slides.

I was at Childs yesterday on the west side of the river and there were cars coming down the hill on the east side. It looked like there were people camping on the east side also.

Thanks! I suspect the Fossil Creek closures are closer to the crossing of Fossil Creek up towards Strawberry along the shelf road so access to Ike Saddle and Childs are probably open.

How did the crossing at Childs look? Verde running pretty good?
