Who took a 950 on the TAT and loved it?

YUP, want to take my 950 on the western portion of the TAT without skipping anything (no big bike detours).
Anybody out there take a big bike and just love it?
The 950 used to race the Dakar. Why does everyone say take a small bike?
Give it to me nice or nasty. I want big bike western TAT stories. The good, bad and ugly.
We leave Late Summer 2013 on a 950, 990 and a BMW 800 and I want motivation. Beers, Atom...

The TAT can definitely be done on a large dual sport such as a 950/990 KTM. However, there are places in CO and UT that you would not want to ride alone on such a large heavy bike. An extra set of hands to push or lift can be helpful.

I rode with a rider on a KTM 950 Adventure in 2011 thru CO. There was one place he had to remove his panniers just to get thru. The canyon just west of Green River, UT and the deep sand beyond could tax many on a larger bike as well. Have not ridden the OR section.

I personally feel the 650 thumpers are the right size for the TAT. However, slabbing it home can be long.
