Haul Road update

One of my friends just drove up the Haul Road to do some skiing and ice climbing with a couple of her friends (May 11-14). The Yukon River is still frozen and there's quite a bit of snow on the ground on the sides of the highway. The highway was clear of snow though, at least up past Atigun Pass. They had fun skiing on the Atigun River and I sure wish I could have joined them.

I think I am glad I am not riding up the Haul Road this Memorial Day Weekend, like I have done the past three years in a row. It would be pretty awesome to see the Yukon River break up though.

Break up

Yukon River is open here, and looking pretty dirty with all the spring run off silt. Of course, I am a little south of where you are thinking of looking at it. (Whitehorse)
