1976 rd400

Well Today a buddy of mine dropped off an RD400 at my house. It was sitting in his parents garage, and they are moving. I guess his brother picked it up about 6 years ago. Motor was pretty fresh and still is as it hasn't been run much. But it seems to have an electrical issue. And there is no title. He just wanted to do something with it rather than it sit out in his shed rotting. He told me to sell it or part it out, But i gotta say this is a cool bike, granted the no title is a major turn off but you don't see the 400's everyday. So i think i may end up keeping this one.

It needs some work but is pretty cool dg pipes and a modified intake from what i can see. ill start picking at it tomorrow and ill post some pics.

Did his borther never have it titled? if he did, he can get a dupe at the DMV for like 16 dollars and sign it over to you. Otherwise, there are a few LEGAL ways to get a new replacement title. One is file an abandonment affidavit, one of the other ways is go thru a title search company. They can search out the last registered owner and generate a new title for you for under 300 dollars, which might be better than YOU spending countless useless hours TRYING to get thru the process easily.

As far as i know his brother never had a title for it. but there was at least one other owner before him.

The hump makes all the difference.

It's already got 'race pipes'

Seriously, how good a find is that?

Do you have big issues with formalising ownership over there?
Maybe if all your states shared vehicle registration information....?

Back in '02 I went to look at an orange RD for sale. When I rolled up to the seller's house it was already loaded up onto another buyer's truck.

With those cool parts on it, your bike is a keeper. Here in CA, people think they're made of gold.

Yes, if there isn't a title it is pretty hard. In pa all you really need to get a title is previous registration from another state and they will usually issue one. But i don't have that either.
