F650GS 05 Standing Up

I got a project bike that needs some work.

I ride a 1150GS that is a dream to ride standing up. It's easy, controllable, it just works great.


The 650gs is not so much. It's awkward cramped and the whole body position is wrong.

Ideas? This a common thing with 650's?

I saw Touratch has a peg relocation kit and risers, any one try this kit out?

I have the Touratech kit on mine. Expensive but it works.
I also have bar risers with fat bars.
I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and standing is quite comfortable.

Touratch has a peg relocation kit and riser....I'd say its a must have

i just swapped the stock bars for a set of cr high protaper contours bars and adapters. the universal adapters had to be modified a bit to work with bmw bolt pattern. i found that with the stock bars sitting on the passenger portion of the seat was more comfortable.. and i have done that on long rides. i like the less pull back on the protapers but i had a drag bar on my street fighter bandit. i like wide bars i am only 6 foot tall but have a 34" inseam and arms akin to an orangutan lol i also picked up a used corbin wich lets ya sit back a bit father in the saddle so i am hoping that will help to :) have to say my right knee doesnt like to be in the position for long long rides so lowering pegs may help too.

Using ATV bars on one of my Dakar’s. High bend allows std triple clamp without spacers and std brake line.
Bought the Touratech footpeg relocation kit – overpriced – the brackets are ok but the foot pegs are just std ones with a bit more welded on them. Bent them very easily. The gear leaver is made of butter and the brake leaver isn’t that much better.
Have replaced the gear leaver with an aftermarket unit from a Honda CRF 450 (02-08) – same spline, slightly shorter so it works well with the rear set pegs.
Saw that Moose Racing are making ˝ inch offset pegs – look interesting – am thinking of trying them for my 2nd Dakar.

With the relocation kit I would be using pivot pegs, any issues you thingk or will that solve the peg problem you had?

Regarding the shift and brake levers from Touratech.
Yes they are soft and that's a good thing on an adventure bike.

I've smashed them in to rocks and they've been bent into some crazy angles.

To repair I take them off bend them back into shape, add a little spray paint
and they're good as new. Nice aluminum ones (which I have on other bikes)
break when they have similar impacts.

Just my 2 cents.

I have the footpeg relocators and they are very good. Really improved my standing position and I don't mind the pegs so much. I wouldn't mind trying an aftermarket set of pegs, either, though.

As mentioned, the levers are softer but they can be easily salvages should one be bent.

When mounting risers be careful with the electric wires, there isn't much extra room in the clutch and throttle cables nor the wires, and mine were locked down tight so no extra slack could be obtained.

I don't see how a tall ADV bar without risers and a motorcycle bar with risers makes any difference on the extra length needed on the brake line or cables. Height is height. Definately try the relocation kit, you can probably find aftermarket pegs that work and levers if you really wanted to.

Have risers and the TT relocation kit. Totally changed the bike. Very comfy standing up now for longer stretches.

Which aftermarket pegs work with the Touratech relocation kit?

I'm thinking the new big ass Fastway adventure pegs or the PivotPegz. I have regular old school Fastways on the 1150 and like them well enough.

anyone help me out here?

The yz450 fork swap and different bars fixed the height problem for me and the relocation kit made a world of difference, but I still find the standing position challenging especially given how wide the stance is with the fuel tank between my legs. I rode a metric shit ton of dirt in Death Valley and my knees were telling me about the width of the bike!

Which performed flawlessly aside from losing a headlamp bulb.

I already have the Touratech relocation kit installed. Otherwise I would have ordered one from him, except he's out at the moment. More coming it seems.
