The Wee is good transportation. The KTM is pure "Weeeeeeeeee!"

Maybe with the right pipe on it. The stock one does not sound good to my ears. Of course, I got my 990 after 13 years of riding Ducatis which have truly wonderful engine sounds.

I had a Wee myself and did lots of riding with...Alaska Prudhoe bay , Inuvik, White rim Moab. Now on a 990 from Vancouver to Ushuaia and back. My advice sell the wee and the klr without looking back....there is no better bike than 990...its in a different league, it changed my life and my riding. As far as reliability, my 990 has 116000 km on now and will stand around 150 000 when I'll finish this trip with no issues and I'm planning a trip to Africa on it ....totally confident on the bike.
Get the 990 .... It's time for u to start riding

The test ride always seems to do it. I have two buddies who were not planning on buying KTMs, but pulled the trigger immediately after riding mine. Enjoy your new ride!

I also have both and will say that DSM8s comments are right on target. One thing I would add is the Wee has much better passenger comfort - longer, wider rear portion of the seat.

I know I'm preaching to the quire here but good lord this is a fun bike, great dual sport, very capable road bike, and a descent sport bike. Very easily the best bike I,ve had yet (and thats a lot of bikes.) I hope nothing brakes to ruin the Honey moon. OK enough talk I,m going riding again! bete.

Take the time now while it is still brand new to do a couple of things that will make life better in the long run.

1st flush the cooling system, read up on it in the HOW. Regardless of what they say about the casting process improvements it is the single easiest thing to do that will prevent premature water pump seal failure.

2nd Put a Uni-Prefilter on the bike. It will make the stock air filter last 10x longer.

Other than that ride it. Enjoy

Comparing them is totally apples to oranges.

Wee is better for daily commuting and running around town, It gets better MPG, is more suited to stop and go traffic and can handle the heat without having the fan run all the time. Lights are better at night.

It is the jack of all trades master of none motorcycle.

I have over 110K miles on mine and it has been a flawless tool for the job.

990 - This bike is pure unadultered fun, so long as your not having to sit in traffic, it has an undersized cooling system. The bike was built for racing and performs as such.

From a riding perspective it is no comparison. The 990 is faster, flicks easier in the twisties, has better suspension and brakes. Performance wise it is miles ahead of the Wee.

Flip side it is more difficult to maintain, requires more attention than the wee but makes that up in spades.

Oh and while the Wee gets 55mpg all the time the EFI on the 990 might get you 45 while commuting but the refinement of the EFI is poor compared to the Wee right out of the box and depending on what year 990 you get. There are solutions but it has to be sorted.

So that said, the question to be asked is what are going to be using it for. My Wee is ridden every day for work, errand and running around town or taken on the pavement only trips which are far and few between.

The 990 is purely my touring off road weapon of choice for multiday off road trips.

Dont know if this helps but regardless there is my .02
+1 Perfect explanation!

Most people think a KTM rides like a jap, just less reliable and less attractive.
Boy are they suprised (and broke) when they testride one.
