Alaska Info Please

I am in the midst of a wonderful trip here in Alaska. Road up from San Francisco and made it up to the Arctic Circle yesterday. I am on a GS 1200 with road tires. My question, it has been raining, what's the Old Denali Highway like this time of year? I am a decent rider and felt like the haul road yesterday was a piece of cake.

Thanks,
BrianS

Thx!

Thanks guys. I went over to the BMW dealer and checked on some more aggressive tires. The tires a good price but they wanted $175 to install them. Ouch. I decided no.

Thanks again for the info!

Just crossed Denali hwy last weekend.. Road is well graded, and in nice shape.
Used stock rear Pirelli 'trail' which, despite the name is a street tire. Had no problems.

If you brought your tires out to my shop (The Abbey) I change $120 to do it after seeing that I may need to rase my prices.

Thanks again!

Completed the Denali Highway today... no problem. It was dry so that made it easier but still, I probably averaged 35MPH. There was a couple of sections with A LOT of potholes and one or two sections with deepish walnut size gravel. That was the only spot that I had to really focus. Anyway, that again for the info.

As per the tires, thanks for the various offers. I was shocked the dealer wanted to charge 1 and 3/4 hours of labor to change two tires. I won't need to swap now.

Thanks again everyone!

Bottle of red wine per tire, good chance of free good used tires and some abuse and maybe a beer if someone has left me some stock.

Doesn't AK Leather mount and balance for free? Maybe if you buy tires from them? I could be totally mistaken. Thought I heard that somewhere though. I believe they'll do it. All you have to do is pull your wheels off and put them back on.

Yes, AK Leather will mount and balance your tires for free if you take the wheels off & pay them some money.
Been there, done that.
