I would think that this is just as appropriate as promoting club events such as rallies that raise drinking money for their club members.

Not judging, just saying...

I'm going to let this one run, although davo does have a valid point about it possibly leading to a lot more of these types of money raising threads.

We do allow some charity stuff every year, the scrapheap challenge the postie stuff and of course the cancer ride, there are others for the RFDS etc.

In the main sections of ADV these kind of threads raising funds for members, for events, have been moved to Inmates not vendors if we were to move this thread there it would get lost, even if we left a redirect.

Mod decisions are based on balance in the forum, not always on precedent. At the moment there is very little charity stuff the SC challenge is over and the Cancer ride has not kicked off yet this year.

Each of these are treated differently eg. when god of speed was trying to do similar we moved that thread to the FM (before we had the vendors thread) as he wanted to sell T-shirts to raise funds to get him to lake gardener.

These are different to folks trying to profit directly from the popularity of ADV as we have seen in the past.

This is primarily a ride and gathering to try and help an inmate get to fink, no-one is trying to profit directly from it, that I can see.
The Snailtrail guy's are positive contributors to the site and their stuff is well liked.

If we get a flood of them we will have to take a deeper look and work out a solution, one innocent one occasionally is OK for this mod.
I cannot speak for the others but that's my take on it.

I do not want this thread to become a disscussion thread about the running of adv please, If you want to discussit further PM NEV, he's away

So let's get this thread back on the right track!

Is there anyone (apart from Wasca) who would like to come on this ride, but will be riding a bike bigger than a DR650?
I was thinking, if there are a few of you, we may work out a Snail Trails type route to get to and from the training areas, and the bigger bikes can park up and the riders can observe the enduro bikes going through their paces.

I'm happy to let you use my bike for the bike handling exercises, as is Sandy. So at least you can get involved without busting your gut!

I'd like this to be just an informal, fun day, with a few people passing on the wisdom to the less experienced.

I've learned so much from the different people we have ridden with over the past few years, and it's the sort of stuff you quite often don't read in books or forums. So I'm real keen to pass the favour on to anyone who wants it.

UPDATE:

Mel's partner for the Finke trip (with whom she was going to share expenses and driving duties) has had a nasty fall, and injured himself.
So now she will be doing the entire trip on her own.

3 solid days of driving to get there
7 days of riding
3 solid days of driving to get home!

Geez Mel, I'll be thinking of you while I do my 60klm wobbles through Beerburrum!

Looks like a great morning out, Strummer.

Sorry I can't be there, but I've put the word out to a few gravel riders and hope some can come along to support the cause and at the same time learn some skills.

Good luck to Mel.

Cheers

Strummer, I think your idea of us with bigger bikes coming along, park our bikes and then observe and possibly use one of your bikes is great.

I ride a KLR650 and would like to come along and support Mel.

Cheers

Alright then, it's settled.

This ride will officially cater to bigger (mid size) bikes as well as the dirt weapons.
So if you ride anything from a postie to a KLR, it's all good!

We may even split the pack for the last 3rd of the ride, so the enduro bike riders can challenge the new skills a bit.

Should be a wicked fun day, topped off with beers and snags. How good is that??

Oh yes, because that worked out so well for all concerned...

Actually, I sometimes think I had an easier time on some of those trails with the DL. It always felt planted, never twitchy. The DR always feels like the front wants to slide. I know it doesn't, it just feels like it. That's where most of my problems are. The tight stuff I can do. It's the faster turns that screw me up.
