Well, I recall seeing pics of you airborn on that thing, around the time I was still getting up the guts to pop the front wheel up on the DRZ

Smokey, welcome mate, you won't have any trouble keeping up on this ride, even Naz could manage this one
Naz = Erstwhile slowest thing on two wheels...until she went travelling and reached speeds of up to 50 kph!!

Smithy, April, May, July who cares Hope you can still make it mate.

As much as I would love to be there, the DT isn't going to be fixed in time and honestly the DR is just too big for me do any of this sort of riding on, and then theres the whole baby sitter thing....... Hope you all have fun!

No problem mate, we'll keep the main part of the ride nice and easy, then people can decide if they want to have a go at the various skills practice on offer.
Plus, I just did my MCL in my knee yesterday, acting like a twit and doing donuts on the beach, so this will be my glorious come-back ride!

Welcome along, and also to Sir Lance.

Boo, if you manage someone to look after little M, the ride will be fine, nothing you haven't done before.

SUBJECT TO FAVORABLE WEATHER - MAY BE POSTPONED BY 1 OR 2 WEEKS IF RAINING

As many of you would know by now, our much loved riding buddy, and all around dirt-bike queen - Melissa - is headed to the Finke Desert Race in June.
Now, you may not be aware that she is funding the trip herself, and that the expenses for such an entry run very high indeed. Many thousands of dollars in fact.

A few years ago, Mel was seriously injured in an accident with a drunk driver. Her fight to walk again would have been effort enough, but now she runs Tri-athalons and races dirt bikes!!! We are very proud of her, and are keen to help her realise her dreams.

So we, her friends would like to show our support by offering the

'Send Mel to Finke' Introduction to Enduro skills ride and BBQ!!

This ride will involve a Snail Trails type ride, to get us to the various training areas. Then riders will have the option to watch demonstrations of skills, or to have a go at the skills with their own bike or with an enduro bike, supplied by yours truly. So feel free to bring your DR or KLR along.
This ride is for everyone, but it's especially for newer riders who would like to step up from Grade 1 riding, and have a go at some Grade 2 and 3 terrain, at an extremely easy pace, and with total support from more experienced riders.

I encourage the chicks to get on this one too, all skill levels are welcome.

THE PLAN:

We will have discussions and demonstrations of basic enduro riding skills, such as:
Body positioning (riding standing up etc)
Slow riding
Emergency braking on gravel
Balance
Water crossing
Riding in deep sand
How to tackle rocky hills and more.
Also some handy hints for preparing your bike, maintenance, handling the bike when in tight situations. All the stuff it usually takes months to pick up... the hard way!

After the ride, we will put on a BBQ snag sizzle and some light beers and soft drinks.

So come along, grab some skills, have a great social ride day with no pressure at all, meet our very own lady racer, enjoy some food, a drink and some great company.

All we ask is that IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT, you make a donation of around $15 towards Mel's entry and support fees.

Here she is in action, thanks to B1 for the video:

WHEN: SUNDAY MAY 12
WHERE: MATTHEW FLINDERS REST AREA, STEVE IRWIN WAY, GLASSHOUSE
MEET: 8.00 am for 8.30 ride brief and the first skills demo.
BRING: Registered bike, license or learners, all safety gear including knee and elbow armour, water, camera, $15 and a good sense of humour and a taste for adventure!

AS WITH ALL OUR RIDES, YOU SHOULD RIDE AT A PACE THAT YOU FEEL IS SAFE. YOU SHOULD NEVER ATTEMPT ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH, AND YOU SHOULD SEEK ADVICE OR HELP IF UNSURE.
YOU MUST READ AND AGREE TO THE DISCLAIMER http://snail-trails.sportsontheweb.net/disclaimer.htm BEFORE COMING ON ANY GROUP RIDE.

This would be good if it was postponed only because I just realised it falls on Mothers day which for me and I assume others may be a conflict in schedules.

Congrats on the new bike mate. Gotta love the do-anything DRZ.

Those who are interested, would Sunday 19th May be more convenient??

I'd like to try and get as many people on the ride as we can, cos I'm not sure when we will be able to do this again.

Let me know what your vote is? (including those who have signed up for 12th)
