2007 650GS dakar wiring harness replacement issues

So, a while ago I pulled a bonehead move and shorted out my wiring harness. More specifcally, it melted the abs plug at the abs unit.

After being told by my local dealer the bike was junk, I went and decided to replace it on my own. I decided to remove the abs as it would have added another $1K to the cost. This required me getting the non abs harness.

It all went really well, I grabbed a new harness from Max and installed it myself.

I hit the starter and it fired up first shot. I let it run for about a minute and shut it down. I noticed it was reving high so I checked the throttle cable and made sure it was set correctly. I then fired it back up.

It still idled high and after a minute I notice the exhaust started getting really hot. Almost glowing red at the engine so I shut it down right away.

I also noticed that the while all the dash lights seemed to be working, the rpm gauge was not.

So that's my problem. Any ideas?

Insurance is cheap on these bikes and owning a BMW can be expensive, I wouldn't leave home without it.
