My last few visits to the DMV have been a breeze, but I agree that registering an out of state motorcycle is a PIA. When I registered a dirt bike bought in NM it required multiple trips, because they first didn't know what numbers to look for and then they recorded one digit incorrectly. The biggest pain is that they would not climb on my trailer to inspect the bike - against policy.

You people need to get out of that communist state!!!

I bought my latest bike in WY, and registered it in UT. I was in and out of the DMV in under 10 minutes... WITHOUT an appointment. In fact, I have never spent more than 10 minutes at the DMV here - ever! That's registering 2 cars, 2 snowmobiles, and my bike. I just pop by, walk in, and most of the time I don't have time to sit down before they call my number. I'm not making this up... 100% serious!

That's nothing like it was when I lived in NY though. Took me 3 trips to register a trailer there. I would always consider myself lucky if I walked out in under an hour. So glad I got out of the commie state 5 years ago!!! Who'd have thought a layoff would have been such a blessing in disguise?

Your bike doesn't have the center stand?? Duh!! There IS NO good reason not to have side stand relocator. CJ Designs is the way to go. Has no obstruction or contact with the engine whatsoever. Sounds like someone just wanted to bitch and cry in his beer!

CA DMV also has outside contractors that can complete new (to CA) vehicle inspections for registration. Last year I bought an out of state motorcycle, the inspector came to my office, looked it over, signed the necessary paperwork, then all I needed to do was take her paperwork, stand in line (@DMV) and grab a plate. Got it first time, no questions asked.

They are worth every penny because a) they can come to you, b) they are real people who you can talk with and make sure everything is as it should be before going to the DMV.

Populated, not communist. If Utah had 20 million residents your DMV would be a PIA as well.

But I do agree, people need to get the hell outta here. I hear Utah is nice.

I got full CA DMV treatment yesterday trying to get a OHV sticker for my Beta Rev3. 4 months working with Beta to get a MSO all for nothing. I tried to leave when it started going bad and she said "if you leave I will just put the bike in the system as REJECTED and you will never be able to register it." I asked why and got "You will just go to a different DMV and they might let it thru..."

Really hard to get over this. Took me a year to find the bike all for nothing just because of one DVM person with a crap attitude. I will never buy a out of state bike again unless its a junker I plan to use to ride close trails. A bike you can leave behind and run if you have to..

Whenever the counter person at the dmv heads south on me, I always stop,, and ask "I'm not sure I understand,, can you help me make some notes so I can go fix it the right way? "

Once they give me their list,, I then start at the top and asks,, OK, so what is the motor vehicle code that covers this item? I need to make sure I have it exactly right...

In other words become so needy and cooperative they do what I want to get rid of me...

I also NEVER go to a big city DMV,, I drive over two hours out to find a small town farm DMV that just wants to get it done and go home...

LOL

Yep, I do the same. The same office that had helped me re-title 5 old bikes over the years gave me the shaft yesterday. To be fair, Beta has funky VIN numbers. But this agent lacked the "what can I do to help" attitude. She was out to make sure I was held to the letter of the law.

Sure. Until they decide until they are not going to sign off.

Senility is great. Until you need someone to sign off on your official paperwork.

my paperwork was signed off 3 times at DMV today.

Engine, VIN, and other DMV all issued appropriatially.

Title issued.

This is small-town (Wheatland) Wyoming: 1. Go to the sheriff's office & have the VIN verified. 2. Walk across the alley & lawn to the courthouse & present the verification form to Donna in Titles upstairs. 3. Take the form she gives you across the hall to the ladies in Vehicle Registration, pay your taxes & fees, and receive your temp tag.

The whole process has only ever taken me about 15 minutes, except the one time I had to make an appointment to see a deputy later on that day.

When the wind's blowing 70-per on the local reservoir, I'm thinking you could (if you could stay upright).
