A good route should the shop start talking no liability then is to tell them you'll sic the IRS on them. NO ONE who runs a cash bidness wants to hear that!

I'd start a thread with a plea for every inmate to donate 10 measly cents to help you paint your car. If a quarter of them CBOA guys replied you could get er down to Earl Scheib and get a pretty trick paint job and as the Boss said leave the windows down and they'll do the interior for FREE!

What's your PP? I'm in for 20 cents!

This. The exact same thing happened to a friend of mine in Oregon (heroin addicts rather than meth heads most likely). In his case, they put a pink bumper on the car for some odd reason. He found a bunch of paraphanalia under the back seat...

Oh man, that thar is FUNNY.

I say let your kid deal with painting it. Give him some sandpaper, masking tape, paper, and spray paint and tell him to get to it.

Who knows, it might be worth 2 grand when he is done

Being squeaky clean, I will always check a used car after I buy it with a fine tooth comb. I surely don't want some cop to pull me over and have a drug dog and find something the PO left in there four years before I bought it and get busted for it.

They would probably sand the windows and huff the spray paint.

Good idea to take the police report and go to a nearby agency or state police with drug dogs. Tell them what happened and you want to be sure the car is clean. The handlers are always happy to put their dogs to new tests and will let Fido go searching to be safe.

Before that, get a strong magnet and pass it along all the seat creases and pull up the cushions, pull out the glove box and check any places someone could pry back enough to hide a stash in. USE THE FRICKIN MAGNET to sweep the upholstery. Finding a broken junkie needle by letting it surprise you in the ass on the way into work is not a fun time.

So, along topic, the best stolen car story was from my mother. She had an old Ford Ranchero in decent shape, except the interior. She had a towel on the seat as upholstery and I used to joke with her why does she even bother locking it, no one would want that piece of crap. One day it got stolen from Glendale AZ. Bummer. No theft coverage. Oh well.

They get called about five weeks later, CHP has it in LA. Dad flies out and finds what used to be a run down, white Ranchero is now a candy apple red, fully restored, new stereo, $1000 rims, and all new upholstered interior. Whoever took it turned it into a genuine show car and didn't curt any corners. Dad drove it back and my mother found a buyer for it right away. A car they couldn't get rid of for $1500 before the theft sold for $24K. Thing even had real gold leaf all over it.

That isn't an all too odd story. I have heard that happening with a few muscle cars that had been sitting in some dudes yard for years. Got stolen, sold with no title then all tricked out when found to be stolen, new owner person who restored it has to surrendered with no payout.
