We where planning a trip to Utah and where going to try to make the race. After seeing that video I'll pass. Looks more like a super moto track. But even if this isn't the final track it doesn't look like a good track to watch at. Dust, no shade, flat.

yep dont go to the utah track , I hope they get a piss poor turnout , there are so many amazing natural terrain REAL motocross tracks in this country that could have been used but we get this joke of a track.

I was going to tape out the screen but still needed to see some menu stuff. It was hard to not chimp and just trust you where getting the right exposure and focus. No post work or cropping.

Here are the 250's. [/URL]
interesting approach! it worked. damn with the TC you were up around 450mm these are crisp. having seen them 2 weeks in a row it's still fresh in my mind just HOW FAST AND HARD they ride. that looks like a pretty big hill they either jumped down or came down but whichever you know he/they are now in this big DEEP rut of a berm/turn with all that momentum and THEY JUST DON'T LET UP they truly are beyond belief. Warren Reid slammed todays riders last month at Unadilla VMX called them a bunch of baby's because they only ride 30 minute moto's and they used to ride 40-45 and Mamoth Mt was 45 plus a lap and a lap was 2.5 minutes blah blah blah but these guys, led by guys like Musquin and all the rest of them are on another planet there is no other way to put it. TV does good with SX, not so good with MX. You have to look at this picture as someone who just came by at a very high rate of speed over very difficult terrain. Blink and you missed it. Nice shots, looking forward to the 450's.

Chimping is when you look at the camera's LCD display after every shot or two. It comes from when you look at the screen and see a good picture you say "Ooo oo oo I got a good shot", like the sound a excited chimpanzee would make.

The main reason I didn't do it was I wanted it to be like shooting film again, and looking at the display eats batteries. I did catch myself once looking out of habit.

The other thing I did was once the riders and bikes got covered with mud I put the camera down. I have 1000's of photo of riders that you can't tell who they are because of the mud and dirt. Whats the point of more Gigabits of sub-par photos.

I was basing my thoughts on it just being the starter because of his attempt to bump start it meaning it was not cranking over.

Yeah. The bad part is there are endless locations for a truly great MX track around Salt Lake City. You just need to go east of town instead of west out into the salt flats!
(I know, I know, Tooele isn't actually SALT flats, but flat like a football field, just bigger.)

From Davey Coombs "racerhead" article this past week.

"And before anyone jumps to more conclusions about where this race might end up, I promise you the next national won't be in the infield of any race car tracks. Miller Motorsports Park is a unique event that I believe adds diversity and a new region to the series, but others don't like the idea of holding a motocross race in a non-traditional setting. We are not looking to do more, nor can we, because according to previously agreed upon terms with the AMA, any event held at a facility with more than 35,000 permanent bleachers is considered a supercross and can't even be qualified as a national or be part of the series."

This may be the coming trend. I was reading an interview of Circuit of the Americas ( the new road in course Austin,Tx. ) general manager. They asked him what other series would he like to bring to the facility? He said, AMA road racing would be nice, maybe IMSA, NASCAR, etc. But he said, he would really like to bring motocross there.

I think these people look at Supercross and think that if they have a state of the art racing facility that they can draw 50,000 people to a race. I think they're wrong for this reason. The monster trucks can sell out the Astrodome with 60,000 spectators. But if you moved that same event to an outdoor setting, in the heat, rain or any other adverse conditions, it wouldn't draw 10,000 people. I think supercross and motocross have two different fan bases. One wants a comfy armchair were all of the action is upclose with 100% visibility and drinks and popcorn just a few short steps away. The other doesn't mind the elements, He doesn't mind hiking around the track checking out different sections. He doesn't mind being tired and dirty at the end of the day. The motocross fan is probably more likely to drive for hours to attend an event. He is the core of the sport! But, I could be wrong.

The track at Lake Elsinore is just as flat, has no shade, and is dusty as hell. I didn't hear anyone gripe about that track. I do agree with you though. I miss the nationals at Glen Helen . Ruts as deep as your fuel tank and hills that test your nerve.
