I'm looking forward to this. 2 16 gig cards for the D90 and a 70-210 f4 not to mention the MB-D80 battery pack w/spares. Thinking of dragging the F5 along too.

Any advice on the best places to shoot?

as far as motorcycle parking, they do have loosely designated bike parking area's which are close to the road and as he's heading north he's got it made.

this is an event that is not to be missed if anyone can possibly make it they should. any pro MX/SX event in 2013 is a chance to seeing some of the fastest riders to ever sling a leg over a bike. you've got RV,RD, Roczen, Tomac, Barcia, Reed, JS7, Canard and on and on. Weather at this point looks good. One of the top 5 tracks on the planet. If I had the choice of getting there at 12 or not going, I'd get there at 12. Wait until the start of the first 450 moto and let the first turn spectating area thin out and then get a ringside seat for the first 250 moto you'll get your money's worth right there. exit stage left and head for skyshot and bring an air horn.

I can't wait...
Thanks, all the encoragement I need.

Had hoped to ride down Friday and enjoy a full day at the track but the scheduling gods aren't having it. I am a little concerned bombing along through the Adirondaks early in the day or evening as I almost hit a deer last Sunday.

Unadilla is a beast of a track. 9 years ago I rode there from NE Mass on Sunday AM. I arrived just in time for the races and had a great day. It was the year of the Bubba V. Carmichael incident, the races were tight. I think the big ski jump was still in the back. I miss that bad. After the race I rode back to MA. I did that trip on a 1994 DR 650. I lost my camera on the ride home but I still have the THOR jersey I bought that day.

I wish I could make it this year......

Hands down skyshot.

The fence gets packed with people but last year getting into the bleachers was fairly easy, people seem to come and go. The sky shot bleachers are PERFECT for the 70-200 lens. The action is non stop every lap as the whips are not all for show those crazies really mean business with those whips. Gravity Cavity is no where near as photo friendly. The first turn is nice but once the start is over you got to get hiking as it becomes just a drama free passageway. The 2nd best area is the little corner of the track where Barcia and Dungey bumped last year(?) where Barcia went down from the result. That's a pretty sick jump, the hill paralell to it is tree shaded, there is food and portacans close by. The fence is lined with people but you'll get a post when people get bored and move on. Skyshot is even better from the bleachers than from the infield as when you shoot from the infield your autofocus tends to grab onto the trees behind the bleachers. Shooting out into the void of sky shot the focus can and will lock onto the rider. If you set up shop at skyshot ALL DAY you wouldn't regret it. Just bring water and food if you can't go long without it.

Some guys drip antifreeze or oil/grease on the slides to run the sleds without snow.

Teflon slides would be awesome but probably cost as much as the sled.
