ATL to Bristol TN for MX?

So I am planning on heading up to Bristol TN for the AMA outdoor MX race June 1st and 2nd with some friends. First outdoor national in the SouthEast in a long time. I've been to quite a few of the races but thought I have to go to the new round this year.

There are two possible plans:

1) spend a day riding up and see if we can ride some good DS roads/trails on the way up.

2) trailer the bikes up and find some riding up in that area.

So anyone know of any good routes that would be between A and B? maybe somewhere around Franklin or Asheville and headed north? Just trying to decide if there's enough dirt between ATL and Bristol to make it worthwhile to ride up. Maybe camp, maybe get a hotel room nearby? I don't know that area so not sure what's close to the track or what the track is like?

Any suggestions or comments? Anyone else going to the races, might be fun to get a group of ADVers together to watch the races.
