Getting back to Moab from the trail just before dark proved to be a little treacherous!

*****

It's been almost 20 months since I left Vancouver, the first city I started my journey in Americas. My last post was when I crossed Canada and United States. Now my current position is Buenos Aires Argentina. I will enjoying the city for a couple of days then heading south to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. Although it may be stale to continue my last post, but it may still be a little interesting to share.

The story began when I started to leave US a year ago and headed south via Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, all countries in central America then from Panama sailed by Stahlratte thru' Caribbean to Cartagena, Colombia. Then headed south via Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.

As we know, a lot of horror stories from many of those countries. Some of the great riders have lost their lives there, not to mention Harry Devert from NY who lost in Mexico, I crossed the area just 10 days earlier then him. We also hearg some terrible stories that happened to other riders

Actually, what is wrong with all those countries ... Is it really dangerous ? or there is something wrong with the riders ... I think, we couldn’t blame the riders, but also not in a place to discredit the country.

Based on my experience, each country always has an unsafe place, wherever is it. We know various types of dangers out there, perhaps it is a course of terrain, an extreme weather, wild animals, unexpected natural disasters and others. In my opinion the most unsafe things we have to face is when it comes from the human itself. Cause it is not easy to be predicted by anyone, even for those who have experienced. So how to solve it ? Shall we just wait and wait until the situation is safe ? Perhaps in the end we never go anywhere…

When I met someone on the road and tell them my next destination, 9 from 10 person would say: Don’t go there, it's a dangerous place ! The funny thing is when I inquired further, if they ever go there and the answer is NO !!! … So how did they know that the area is dangerous but they themself had never been there.

Without omitting facts that occurred, such as the lost of our great rider friends. I took a simple conclusion : DANGER situation is when we are in a WRONG PLACE at a WRONG TIME… It might sound stupid, but believe me, with this kind of thought, I ride my motorbike passed through many unsafe area or country, not to mention the Khyber Pass (as I know, there is no law or court, controlled by warlord), Afghanistan (war), Michoacan (the most dangerous place in Mexico, controlled by drug cartels).

So, to keep me safe on the road, I just try NOT to be in ‘the wrong place at the wrong time’. How ? Most of time, I am on my own, I have nobody with me so I tried to listen my guard angel from the bottom of my heart. Experience of many years on the road crossed dozens of countries taught me to trust my intuition. What I did is open my mind, respect the culture, respect the people, united with the surroundings, stay alert and smiles. So far, I can avoid distress condition before it might be happen or maybe it will never happen. It works for me and I keep wander along the open road crossed the mountains, prairies, rivers, deserts, even passed thru' the conflict country....

I believe many of you guys are tough adventurer who certainly has a better way out than me. If you have one, it was great to hear your experiences and tips. Perhaps I (or anyone) could take the meaning of your thoughts. The world of adventure is a quite vulnerable, anything can be happen. Sharing experiences and exchange ideas make us richer in mind and have sufficient alternative to face what would happenned. Although we know what is good for me, maybe is not necessarily good for you, vice versa. Everything is back to each person, just take the good one and waste of the bad one.

So let’s enjoy the road, feel the wind on your face and exploring this beautiful planet wherever and whatever… Good luck and happy trail !
