I believe you can also increase the limit on the throttle on those bike, if not look into how you can reduce the amount of throttle he can apply.

As he learns the controls then you can increase the amount of throttle available to him.

I believe it is just a screw on the carb the only allows it to open a certain amount etc.

I taught both my boys plus the neighbours kids in a flat paddock with witches hats.

Hats at 5m or so intervals, teaching them to start and stop at each hat. Made it a game to get exactly stopped at the hat, makes em think a bit more than randomly stopping. Then hats in a 10m circle going round and round and round in both directions.

After an hour or less you can go get a coffee while they go nuts till the fuel runs out.
