Dot3 or 4

I have a 79 KZ1300 and it calls for dot3 brake fluid and I have a supply of 4 from my MG and Triumph days can I use 4 and it be ok?

Yes. DOT 3,4, and 5.1 (NOT 5), are all compatible. DOT 4 has a higher boiling point than 3, otherwise they are the same in terms of performance.

I have always used DOT 3. It is a LOT cheaper than DOT 4, and the only difference is the boiling point. Never had a problem. I used DOT 3 in a 1500 Goldwing and it worked fine. If you have a sport bike and do a lot of aggressive riding, then maybe DOT 4 might be the best choice. But you can use it anywhere, except late model Harleys, that use DOT 5, which is not compatible with anything else.

I won't spend more on a bike than I think it's worth, but if it's a good deal, I don't seem to have a problem buying bikes I don't need.
