Pics from recent scouting/clearing rides.

Poncha Cr Rd

Clover Cr Rd

The ice was about 2' thick

Just past the iceberg

Bonanza area, trying to get to Otto Mears Toll Road

That's all until after the holiday weekend; some of the ice should be melted by next Tuesday.

Update May 27, 2013 - I went back on Memorial Day afternoon and tried to get to Otto Mears Toll Road from the south again. I made it all the way up to the top and started down the north side. Squeezin' by - lookin' good:

Darn, stopped again!

The blocked section is .4 mile long.

Update May 30, 2013 - I went back this afternoon to the north end of the snow-blocked area to do a bit of snow shoveling. Two problems:
I forgot the shovel.
The snow has all melted except for one 40' section.

The last snow bank - its days are numbered.

Update May 31, 2013 - Dudley strikes again.

Bring it on, Dan!

The RBT is open from the western terminus at Silver Cr to Kerr Gulch, plus the section south of Cottonwood Cr to Rainbow Camp. There are a few ride-through snow banks south of Poncha Mtn.

The only remaining sections to clear are north and south of Hayden Cr Rd, 5 miles each way. The southern section includes the 'last snow bank' from last year. Where's Dudley?
You da man.

sevenmile/311

Is sevenmile rd/311 (NE of BV) open and fairly dry? Anything interesting around there? I'm riding from den to BV tomorrow, I thought maybe I'd finish that way.

The "Dust Eaters" will be over in Sargents Saturday to start checking the lower sections of trail to clear. We will try Tank 7, Lime, Agate, Quaky and maybe Canyon Creek. Don't think we'll make it to Baldy, Dutchman which I know will be snow covered. Right Hand and North Creek should be snow free. Once we get there, we'll know more and provide a report next week.

More notice and I sure would have been happy to help.

The Dust Eaters headed over to Sargent's Saturday to start to clear trail. We had 5 riders. We parked at the Tomichi Creek crossing to head up to Quaky. It was an ordeal to cross the creek as some of you know at this time of year. Water running fast and deep. We all made it across with one 2 stroke 300 sucking in water after floating in the river. We cut a few trees off of the road to Quaky. Once we hit quaky we encountered snow. We made it in a ways and the had to turn around. Back to the creek crossing for round 2. We all got across again. Now it was off to Canyon Creek Trail. We had to cut numerous trees out and we made it to the horse Corral. Little pockets of snow. We continued about 1/2 mile past the Horse Corral when we hit snow again. Back track to Waunita Trail. One small tree removed. Now off to Quaky Trail from Black Sage pass side. Numerous trees and made it in a lot farther than expected before snow again. I would say maybe a mile section still closed in the valley of Quaky. Maybe 2 weeks until you can get through. We turned around and headed over to Agate Creek. The 2 stroke rider broke off to head home.
The perils of Agate Creek from bottom up. Everyone of the 6 creek crossings was a nervous adventure. We made all of them without incident. A few trees cleared. By the beaver pond, The water is flowing heavy down the trail. So you are riding about a 1/4 mile through a stream of water. Ride through the edge of the beaver pond by their lodge. We got stopped again by snow at maybe a 1/4 - 1/2 mile before the Hwy 50 bailout point. Turn around and go back through the 6 fast and deep water crossings. Back to truck for the all important beer drinking before heading home. About 55 miles for the day including road sections. We'll be back up June 7-8 weekend to start Tank 7, Big Bend, Baldy, Dutchman, etc. I'll try to figure out how to post pics or send them to Rick.

The "Dust Eaters" will be back over at Sargent's this weekend to clear more trail. We'll get to camp at about 9am Friday morning. Clear trail Friday and Saturday and maybe Sunday morning. We are camping in The big Meadow off of the mining road that breaks off of Marshall Pass road just before "Tank 7" trail head. Feel free to join us.
