I've made it from NY to Southern Colorado. I'm beat, but should arrive on time. Both I and the bike look a little worse for wear after 3,000 miles these last 10 days

Munds Park, maps, FR240

As stated earlier in the thread, stop by the fire station in Munds Park on your way to the 240 road. Better than a third of us there are ADV folks and will point you in the right direction. We are located just east of I-17 on the road leading to FR240, next to the country club, can't miss it.

As far as maps go, I got a whole box of them from the forest service in preparation for his event. Come get 'em, they're free!

Me and the boys will also deliver some to the event in case you're coming in from another direction. Look at the OE table, we plan to have them there no later than Friday when I ride over.

P.S. I grind my own coffee and usually have a fresh pot in my office all day long. C'mon by and say howdy!

John

Hey Capt... Is it possible to go all the way into Sedona from Mormon Lake without riding any asphalt until Sedona? If so how long is the 1 way travel time?

Thanks! (Looking forward to a cup of your World Famous Java!)

My buddy and I leave tomorrow morning, riding out from Monterey, CA. He'll be on a grey R1150GS and I'm on a silver R1200GS. My current bike has nothing to identify me as an ADVer.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there.

I'd love to see Charly Boorman and Simon and Lisa Thomas. They are all cool people that it would be fun to meet.

Simon and Lisa will be in the Touratech booth. They have a short presentation on Saturday night and a 2 hour one on Sunday night Apparently that was the only time when the organizers were able to slot them in.

Not sure where CB will be.

I'll be on my HP2.

Wink Rain and Sedona

No rain in Munds Park, can't speak for Mormon Lake though they do get more rain than we do. I have spent the last 45 or so years in that country, and when it clouds up over there, it rains!

As for the trip from Mormon Lake to Sedona via unpaved roads, FR90H to FR91, then on to FR240 for a brief distance to FR228, FR228 to FR226, under the I-17 underpass, about a half mile or less of asphalt on FR153 and follow FR153 (Schnebly Hill Road) to Sedona. Come get a map!

Should take you about an hour and a half to two hours or thereabouts.

Easier to take the FR90H to FR91 to FR240 all the way through Munds Park, get on I-17 for a two mile trip to Schnebly Hill Road exit (220), make a right and head down the (rather scenic but rocky) hill to Sedona.

History on the naming of Schnebly Hill and Sedona. The town is named for a local settler and farmer's wife, Sedona Schnebly from the 19th century.

Originally, the farmer wanted to name the town/post office Schneblyville, but thankfully they chose Sedona instead!

For you folks that like twisties with great scenery, I'd recommend the ride up Highway 89A from Sedona to Flagstaff. Oak Creek Canyon is cool, beautiful, scenic, and has enough hairpins that they limit the length of the vehicles using it. At the top there's a scenic view point looking back towards the south and the canyon/red rocks that's inspiring.

See ya all at the Expo!
