Viking-lady´s first motorcycle trip to Japan

Hello you all! I feel the urge to share with you a few photos from my very first motorcycle trip outside my country (Iceland). This April I took a tour with MotoQuest to Japan, called the Three Island Adventure. It was an adventure of a lifetime for me! First time on a more than one day trip on a motorcycle, first time in Asia, first time riding on the "wrong" (left) side of the road etc... (And since I´ve started: this is also my first thread on ADVrider )

Here we go! :

Let´s start with a map where you can see the route we took:

I was riding a Honda 400cc, a brilliant bike for an inexperienced rider like me:

And here I am flying around on "my" Honda:

We were there during the Cherry Blossom season (April) and here is the group in Cherry Blossom paradise:

During the Cherry Blossom season this is a common sight in Japan. People picnicking under the trees:

All over the country there are Shinto and Buddha shrines to be found. Peaceful, colourful, beautiful:

A few of the riders getting ready in the morning sun for the fantastic day that awaits:

A small hot-spring (onsen) village we stayed in:

Where we had one of the many traditional, strange but very tasty japanese dinners (and this photo only shows a small fraction of what we had that night!) I had no idea what we were eating 80% of the time on that trip, but my goal was to try the things that were put on my plate:

A bit tricky to get this one in my mouth using chopsticks:

A vintage BMW restoration shop we visited:

A nice place to pause for a few minutes:

Our man Hirata-san taking a look over the road we were about to ride on:

The hotel owner and her daughter at one of the hotels we stayed at:

A typical hotel room:

Karaoke is something one can´t escape participating in in Japan :

Newly-weds we stumbled upon:

Sometimes we had the roads to ourselves:

Sometimes we didn´t:

We went to Hiroshima, passed the Hiroshima Memorial dome and went to see the Hiroshima Memorial Museum where we got dramatically touched discovering in detail the horror that went on there in 1945:

This is how the city looked at 8:14, August 6th 1945:

And this is how it looked like at around 8:16, August 6th 1945:

Outside another museum, the Iwashita motorcycle museum:

A small town in Japan (can´t remember it´s name!):

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and here we are returning our bikes after a fantastic trip:

But even though this adventure has ended it was just the first of many for me! I´ve only just begun!

I hope you enjoyed those few photos! I think the photos I took on that adventure turned out to be more than 300!

If you want more details on the places we visited etc. go to:

Thanks for the nice comments! Yes, Japan is without a doubt a very interesting place and society. Would recommend to anyone to go visit (except maybe people who are sensitive to strange looking food)..

(Eyeore: I got to "know" MotoQuest through Biking Viking motorcycle rental here in Iceland. They are in cooperation doing guided adventure trips back here)

Thank you!

Very nice report. Your narrative is a perfect complement to the beautiful pictures.
