Only high point is rated for truck/motorcycle use. The rest is MTB and hiking. Fun little place but not a lot to do.

Technically it is. The Watershed Commission is starting to crack down on motorized traffic lately with closings of roads and loops.

People bringing their horses up there trashing the place up. Lots of Jeep traffic now that it's gotten popular. And mountain bikers are flocking there because it stays dry.

Pretty much. Don't forget the Boy Scouts out there cleaning up the trash on the trails.

And the random jogger.

Yeah. And it's real nice when you're riding around, head up your ass, gently round a corner only to be face to face with six First Class Scouts, a Scoutmaster and his 1983 Subaru, which is parked in the middle of the trail.

Way better than rounding that corner to meet a momma bear and her cubs.

I've done that a few times up there. My favorite was the women in the nissan frontier. I could see the whites of her comic-book like eyes. It was like she didn't realize she wasn't the center of the universe and there were in fact other people up there utilizing the trails.

Not really. Momma bear will carry herself and her cubs off of the road in a quick fashion.

Only to pop back up four or five turns later. YIKES!

Or was the case the first time I rode a (borrowed) GS on a 'down and back' run of 129 from the store.

In my experiences meeting both bears and people on horseback, I'd rather meet the bears.

When I was riding in the woods around age 15 I encountered a girl on a horse in the woods. I could see the horse was a little spooked so I shut off my bike and waited for her to pass. She was holding a pistol in her lap as she went by. I figure she'd had her share of bad experiences. No big deal for me though she didn't even thank me for being considerate.

Around 2008 down here in TN I was chasing a NC tag right along the border with TN. I went up the wrong mountain looking for an abandoned ski resort to no avail. Coming back down the gravel road that seemed to wrap around the mountain in a spiral I was sliding my GSA pretty well. Suddenly there was a large bear standing in the middle of the one lane road. First I had to get straightened out. Then I could hit the brakes on gravel. I was WAY too close when I got stopped. The bear stood there tossing its head and not leaving while I weighed my options. No room to get by past those claws. Not a chance of getting turned and running. I waited. It finally turned and went down the road the way I needed to go. I gave it a while then started honking my horn and revving (not much noise there) as I went. No sign of it again and I was off. Never did get that tag.

I decided to ride over to the Norris Watershed tonight. But I got stopped here at this sign.

Does anyone know when High Point trail will be open again?

This is the dumbest crap. Why is that public space closed? So frustrating.

Don't you wish someone had something about this earlier?
