WA Goldfields ride - September 2013

A window has opened up for me in the week starting the 23rd of September.
That can only mean one thing, a decent bloody dirt ride.

I was chatting with inmates Nick and Waitesy on the weekend and a few ideas were tossed around with the WA Goldfields region being the focus.

I'll get the ball rolling as that is the only week I can do this year. I'm busier than a 1 armed paper boy.

Nick suggested up through Wubin, Paynes Find and beyond. Waitesy was thinking to go back out east of Kal. Think Lake Rason track etc. I fancy another fang along the Holland Track and out towards Cave Hill. Might be a bit wet though.

Anyway, who's keen. Leave Perth on or around the 25th getting back on the weekend. BTW, Monday the 30th is a public holiday. Nothings locked in as such and I'm open to ideas.

Good idea Neil, you can cover a reasonable amount of ground in a week at a moderate pace , what sort of ride did you have in mind, a Waitsey soft core ride

or an unsupported ride.

Geez Kev I was crying in my muesli when I read you were running out of holidays

Good question. With "Mr Motocross" involved I make no promises. The key will be Nick. What he can/can't, will/won't do on his KLX will determine the ride. What ever works for Nick will be how the ride pans out. Fuel will be his main concern and we can work around that. Slab time on the KLX might also be a factor. I reckon if we can do a mainly dirt ride, similar to what we did on my failed NJ attempt, then it's all good. Any long slab sections will work against the KLX.

As for support. To be honest I couldn't give a one way or the other. Some guys will prefer a supported ride whilst others will prefer a non supported ride. Me, as long as i'm out riding with some mates I'm happy. It's simply a case of cold beer versus port.

More than anything I wanted to flag the dates so people can get organised. The actual ride details can be worked out over time.

Hmmm, my interest is sparked.

Pencil me in with the usual caveat's - you know, wifey says no, or the bike needs servicing, or me just soft.

You can do dirt to Hyden then a big loop. We still have to do that rock one day , what was its name Dennis south of Cave hill.
That looked like a good loop, Holland track- Cave hill- The rock-Breakaways and back to Hyden.

Thumb

Peak Charles, Kev,
Here is a suggestion only, meet at Hyden, Lake King, 4wd tracks, Peak Charles, tracks, Salmon Gums , Fraser Range Road, Telegraph Track, Balladonia, Balladonia Zanthus Road, Zanthus, to Kalgoorlie via Lake Yindarlagooda, Bulong, Kalgoorlie.
Refreshment icons for the thirstier riders , longest section fuel wise is the last (500km) is the last section from Balladonia, Lake Yindarlgoolda is well worth a visit whatever route is decided on.

As far as fuel goes I am quite happy to carry extra for those who are not setup for carrying extra fuel, Kev has his setup for a 1000km range as well, whatever route is decided it is a great bit of country to do a bit of riding and exploring.
Enjoyed last years ride,
Den

Good ideas

Now we're getting somewhere.

I like that basic concept Dennis. In fact last night I was gazing at maps and Peak Charles did come up on the radar.

Dirt to Hyden is the go as well Kev. Probably get a few ks up the HT on day 1.

I also will carry enough fuel to be used as a tanker for those who will be light on. My range is about 800 ks. But I'll be stuffed if I'm carrying hardcores tent, socks and reggies though.

Not likely....

Had a chat to the wife and it looks doubtful that I'll be there as we intend to put our house on the market for our big move to Denmark (down south, not Europe ). See how it goes though.

Tjukayrila roadhouse

Been meaning to ride out to tjukayrila for a visit and head out to Empress springs, about 100 od k I think back from the roadhouse
Use the roadhouse as a base ie hot showers burgers etc and I can organise a beer drop, just an idea that I've been thinking of doing soonish
