WA Goldfields ride - September 2013

I can't do the ride, but I will see you guys on the holland track. We're doing it with another family, both in 4x4s with camper trailers. We're starting it on the 24th from the coolgardie end, and well be driving slowly. If you see a white land cruiser and dark grey pajero, stop and say hello! (Ill be in the land cruiser).

Questions??

Ok,
I am on a GSA with 21" front wheel.
Luggage
was planning on taking small soft bags each side.
small roto packs, one port one water.
Bag on rear with tent/chair.
Does this sound ok or are tracks soft sand/ mud?
Should i pack lighter?
Fuel, should be fine
Tyres
Rear Karoo, it should last/just, i would prefer a Mitas Dakar but this Karoo is only 400km old.
Front michelin desert 21, like new, will this last?
If there are large slab sections then i am concerned with this front.
I did 400 km or so few weeks ago, 150 slab back to home, it shows no wear yet.
Any thing else i must/should have?

We put the GSA's up front to clear the track

With all this rain, it should be a bit more compact. 21" front will help as well.

Looks like Bully just pulled a emergency stop as he was approaching the back of a tenere faster than expected!

I can answer some of your questions. I went through there last weekend on my GSA with 21" front.
There is some soft sand but not much. There wasn't a lot of mud but plenty of puddles. Will depend on how much rain they get down there in the week prior.
Your rear Karoo will be fine.
Your Michy desert will be perfect and will easily last the distance. I just did a 4500k trip with mine and it is still OK.
I carry plenty of shit too.

My gs a-negative with 19" front plough will be staying nice and cosy at home, dreaming of sauerkraut and schnitzels.
If I help you pick her up, will you tell me all about the 21" conversion?

Thanks for feed back

I am very happy now.
Just torn between freo making the finals and missing this trip or them not making the GF and me riding.
Very keen, been so busy with life, cant wait to flip the visor down and get on it.
Any one is more than welcome to assist in picking up the Bloody Heavy GSA.
The 21 is good, the new triple clamp is where the biggest change came from.
will explain in more detail with full hand actions and sound effects after a few ports at camp.

You'll have no problems with the GSA on the track, with your skills will be a piece of piss. As howard said the track is pretty good, but just a bit damp, I'll be riding it on Grand final weekend, if you are stuck I'll pick you up .

Just leave your panniers at home and use saddlebags.

The scene of my demise was a Suzuki in front, tree roots and a KTM alongside.....too much going on for the riders skills, slid it in doing about 45...notice how no-one rushed to pick it up also note the scrape mark from the cylinder head, just laid it over and held on

Thanks.
You are ok for the Rail access road, Just do the correct speed. If you see a Road Railer the driver is George and he knows about the ride.

I have to bail out unfortunatley.
I have no annual leave left, I actually owe my employer 5 hrs at the moment.

It looks like my ADV rides will be limited to weekend excursions until next year.

I'm very dissappointed, I was really looking forward to drinking my own urine...

Have a great ride guys... I'm looking forward to the ride reoport!
