Georgetown rock creek status

this just in

To All,

The Georgetown Ranger District received over 0.5 inches of rain in less than a 24 hour period. This amount is enough to trigger a closure of the Rock Creek Trails for OHVs, bicycles and equestrians. The trails have been in a dry and dusty condition for an extended amount of time. The trails will open after a 24 hour period of drying weather has occurred.

Please share this email with your contacts and organizations. Weather conditions can change quickly, so please call (530) 333-4312 for the latest information on the status of the Rock Creek Trails. Thank you for your cooperation.

Jon Jue

Acting Forest Recreation Officer (until October 19)

Eldorado National Forest

Rock Creek has for years had a closure policy based on moisture. A certain amount of rain/ snow will trigger a closeing until it stops raining or the snow melts.

The Eldo forest is closed to all OHV from Dec 31st to March 31st to minimize erosion. This closure can/has been extended due to continued rain/snow. Once there is 12" or more of snow on the ground, OHV use can continue. This has been the case for years.
