Kirkster and I ran into these guys in AR, just over the border with OK, about 2 days ago. 2 of them left and they are the real deal. The Ozarks await them, and its a great ride.

Great to meet you guys, hope you make your time table.

Mike

Great report guys, too bad the clhineese motors are such a POS. A decent OE Honda motor would handle this adventure with no problem.
The OHC engines didn't show up until about 1965. The Trail 90 didn't get an OHC engine until about '67 with the new CT90. Prior to that there was the CT200 "Trail 90" which had the 86cc pushrod engine and no sub-tranny. Here is a pic of one of the OHV engines, if I can figure out how to post it.

Cool2 Pushrod 90

My trail 90 had pushrods.
The dealer didn't even have a parts listing for it.
I don't remember what year (mid 60's?) it was but it had the leading link type front forks.
Something like 3" of rubber travel.
No dual range tranny either, it had dual rear sprockets and a short section of chain to add in when the big (!) sprocket was bolted to the small sprocket.

I had to mickey mouse carb gaskets and other small items but it ran even after sitting for many years.
Yep, Honda learned early that quality leads to reliability which is the key to success.

Yo guys,

So...you had plenty of time riding these bikes on this adventure.

Not to be a buzz kill, but what bikes did you really want to be riding across the USA on your TAT adventure?

******************** UPDATE *************************

KC Miller just finished the Trans America Trail, from West to East on a honda ct90 on Sunday, June 31, 2013. He left Port Orford Or on the 25th of May.

He was the only one to finish out of 5 guys. The first rider had to return to Hawaii for the birth of his child. The second had to throw in the towel in Silverton CO with a busted knee. The third blew his engine in New Mexico. The forth took an ambulance ride off the trail with a broken clavicle (5 pieces). KC Miller finished the trail solo from west Mississippi all the way to the end (Tellico Plains).
KC is currently laying up in a cheap motel in Maryville TN, trying to sell his CT90 so he can buy a plane ticket home. Here is the link to the craigslist ad if your interested... http://knoxville.craigslist.org/mcy/3907786132.html

Someone should buy that little bike and ride it back west to Oregon! What a riot!
