Thanks for the compliments....

EvilClown may have his own take on this but I felt Ecuador was much less touristy than CR. Much less english spoken and very few North Americans traveling there. Now that said, we tend to stay away from the typical tourist areas and saw only a tiny bit of the country. It's about 5 times larger than CR and would take a lot more time to get the same feel for it that we did in CR after 3 trips there. There may be areas in Ecuador that are very touristy, and have lots of North Americans there...we just didn't get there. The only real tourist towns we went to were Otavalo, Mindo, and Banos. Out of those we only saw a couple of people from the states. As far as expense, it's a bit more expensive to get there but cheaper to travel in. Food, lodging, and fuel is way cheap in Ecuador.

So sorry....annoying problem, somehow I got my youtube videos playing the whole playlist. In spite of the fact that I checked the box that said not to. Maybe I did it in the wrong order. So I tried to go back and edit them out and start over but was unable to. If anybody has a solution...let me know.

At breakfast - or desayuno as we like to call it - we make a very important discovery answering the age old question, "What came first, the chicken or the egg?"

...and now, the egg...

There you have it, folks.

Remember. You heard it here first.

The Answer...

Thanks guys! I had been pondering that age old question for forty long years.
Whew... thanks to you, I can now move on. Bless you my sons!

The whole morning was enlightening. Maybe you've also been pondering this question as well...

Speaking of showers...it wasn't this particular 'water heater warmer' shower head...

...but one very similar in our room.

Dave sez the water was warm. I get in afterwards and can barely stand the cold stream coming out of it.

"Jiggle the switch around a little bit...maybe it's not making contact."

*jiggle, jiggle, jiggle*

- green arc glows through the plastic housing -

"Ahhhhhhh...warm water..."

Complete opposite of what's been driven into our heads about electricity and water.

Eventually we get our acts together, get the bikes loaded up and we're off - but not before a photo op with our host at his request.

First, a shot with his camera. Then with mine...

He then offers to lead us out of the village. "Sure. Why not?" I think to myself. "But how hard could it be to find our way out of here?" Then we find out...

Out of the little maze, we fly solo...

This short little ride takes us to precisely the point where Dave does the "Oh shxt! Where's my camera?" pat down. While I'm a little sick to my stomach for him I snap a shot...

Other than the look of shear panic under his helmet, the view was fantastic! You can even make out the church we stayed next to.

Missing camera confirmed, we backtrack...

Before

we get too far along, I need to clear up a discrepancy....watch closely at the very start... then you can stop it.

So We continue on...although I think EC is gonna relate the camera story.....he'll just havta catch up...

This is a large section of laid stone roads that seems to be on the outskirts of many communidads

Then we hit the main road into Otavalo

You covered that nicely...

Motored back to the breakfast place and no sooner than I got off my bike, the teenaged guy that served us breakfast met me at the front door and made the universal "camera" sign. He went in the back for a moment and came out with my camera. I couldn't believe it. I handed him a mini leatherman and he handed me my camera. My faith in humanity reconfirmed. This generous caring type of interaction continued throughout our trip, and to an even greater degree later.

...
Keep it coming.

Camera back in whizzerwheel's possession and our faith in mankind restored, we weave our way back out of town.

The morning is spent filling up SD cards with the GoPros...

...and drinking in the views...

You can barely make him out next to the second pole from the left. I think I may have zoom envy.

While we want this to be its own ride it's tough not making comparisons to other places...

Looking across the valley we imagine sooner or later we'll find our way onto that road down there...

...it's just a matter of how long will it take to get there...

"Whadaya 'spose that marker is..."

"No. To your left."

Checking out the map we determine it's a border marker before we move on...

Couldn't think of the singer or the lyrics to save my life but eventually it came to me...

Bonus points if you've heard this watching Smokey and the Bandit in your yout'. Tripple bonus points if it was at the drive-ins.

In search of gas, this is a good sign...

We pull in, fuel up...

...and do what we can to expose ourselves to the powerful sun of the equator.

This reminds Dave...he's now on a mission...

...he's in search of a bandana. Something to keep the sun off his neck. Apparently he can't be bothered with that pesky sunscreen.

I'm thinking finding a bandana here is going to be next to impossible. He's going to have to find a suitable substitute. All I can think of is that dude from Scooby Doo and of course mention this to Dave. We've got no TV or interweb - we've got to do something for entertainment around here.
