How many days was this ride? I've combed through the pages but can't figure it out.

I know Mike's got some catching up to do here.....The caterpillar ride wasn't operating, so we never got a chance to go for a ride on that...

Leaving Mindo the next morning after a pretty uninspired breakfast as I remember it:

Quick story:

On the way out of town, we came across this guy and his wife standing outside his truck, just off the side of the road, on a very steep hill. As we passed them, we could see that the guy had lost his entire load of metal roofing sections on the ground, because they had slid out due to the steepness of the hill.
We turned around and rode back to help him...parked the bikes, didn't even take our helmets off, and on each side we carried three or four stacked sheets back up to the pickup and loaded them. Walked back and did it again maybe two more times.....

I didn't lead onto this at the time, but I was literally gasping for breath and my heart was jumping out of my chest. I consider myself in reasonably good shape...go to the gym regularly, etc. Holy Shit... A couple of days later, I mentioned this to Mike and he said he thought it was only him. We're both privately thinking we suck.... Up to this point I hadn't experienced any symptoms from altitude, but we hadn't done anything very strenuous either. This showed me just how potent that lack of oxygen really is. Guess we need more beer to compensate.

We decided to get off the main road and take what looked to be the old road showing on the GPS...didn't show on the map at all....seems like a good plan...what could go wrong...

what could go wrong....

A pen of bulls, a motorcycle, and a conquistador....seems like a good mix.

Uh-oh. Video cut off before anything happened. "What could go wrong!!" Ecuador is great riding. Enjoying your report.
PS: I rode with Cort and Sylvain in January. My wife and I have travelled with several other tour/adventure companies, and this was the best. You can tell them I said so. ~Robert~

While we're waiting for EvilClown to resurface, I decided to take the 30 solid minutes of video I had of the morning we spent out on the "old road"... and try to condense it into something "watchable". It's about seven minutes long, and it's my first real attempt at video editing. I hope it's not too boring....

We spent the entire morning churning through this stuff, out... and unfortunately back, after we were unable to make the link back onto a road. We had fun though!

Whizzer has done a fine job of filling in some gaps as well as creating a few more.

Lessee if we can get this thing rolling again...

But first, I feel compelled to post this:

Go ahead. Click it.

Now, lemme see...where was I in this mess...oh, yes...

Nice little place, we drag our shite up to our room and quickly trash the place with our own flavor of decor...

Settled in 'enough' we venture out into the town. With the public transportation down...

...we opt to walk.

Just down the street and around the corner, staring into the window as Dave reflects on the day, he gets an idea for dinner...

A pizza eventually appears and Dave goes for the micro brew...

I go for the grande Pilsener and a tin of oregano.

It's semi outdoor seating so we can people watch while we dine. On the construction site next door we watch them very skillfully tap into the overhead lines for free electricity.

Then a little girl wanders up the middle of the road and we discuss how that would go down back in the States...

...assuming the plastic bubble she would be contained in was ruptured enough for her to escape.

Pizza devoured, we stroll down into the village and see what there is to see, find an ice cream and eventually make our way back to camp...just in time...
