Keep it comin' guys.

This thread reminds me of the (gratefully) small number of bad drunks I've experienced. You know, those where you're shitfaced enough to be tripping over things and struggling with stairs, etc. but not enough to not care.

But in a good way...

Thank you! That's what we were going for.

Meanwhile, dejected and back in the jungle...

That last line, "...I'm gonna get to my agua..." leads to "I think I lost my agua off the back somewhere along the way..." and a painful 67 hours of video on the return ride looking for it.

Guess my carrying system couldn't handle the strain of a full 2 litre bottle back there and automatically ejected it. That's handy. Right about now would be a good time to hydrate.

You'll be pleased to know I've edited (skipped) the 67 hours down to a mere 57 seconds of your life you'll never get back...

Back to the real road

Since leaving Mindo this morning, we've use up half the day, and made about 5 miles of headway. Ask me if we care....

Here's the roughed out plan for the day...find the next gas and follow the dotted line.

The problem is....the map, and reality are generally not aligned, as far as we can tell.

We soon find ourselves on a pretty awesome curvy, narrow, tarred road.

With no other traffic except the bovine kind and maybe a couple of others...

...

I'm pretty sure he was sizing me up for an ass kicking...but wisely (I) decided to move on...I was in no mood to get my ass kicked by that turkey.

The hairy eyeball....

Through tiny little towns... where there's not much more than a cluster of houses and a church...

It seemed like we were losing elevation based on the change in temperature and different type of trees we were seeing. Although it didn't seem like we were headed down especially...

This was an enormous greenhouse that we passed. Don't know for sure what was inside, except for some reason I think it may have been flowers rather than vegetables or fruit.

A long section of the road was lined on one side with these...

Like this:

lots of this...

say... watching you all intensely. Is there a map that did a great job guiding you through the off the beaten paths you have taken? Cant wait to there in August.

Cheers!

We had several maps but none of them were accurate for anything other than the main highways. I think the best one we had was probably the International Travel Map called Quito & Ecuador North. I called ITM and they don't make a Ecuador South map. Probably for Southern Ecuador, the National Geographic Adventure Map would be best. But honestly, brush up on your dead reckoning skills if you're getting off the main track cuz as far as we could find out, there's no accurate mapage.

We were regularly scratching our heads trying to figure out where the hell we were. Bring a compass that works in the southern hemisphere as well, which helps a little, to at least give you general direction. But after all, that's part of the fun...

I'd guess flowers. Ecuador is a huge flower producer/exporter. Possibly roses.
