Great report! The only issue is that I can't stop thinking about all my first world problems.

Along the way, we have series of short discussions...

I wonder why we can't seem to get very far in a day...

It does hint to where we are headed - Crater Lake.

Don't know what it is in his neighborhood but the village of Chugchilán is where we drop back into to get on the road to Crater Lake. That sits at 10,499 feet.

After some discussion, we turn around...

...

...this works out well as we get to check out that 'sawmill' operation a little closer...

Nice Que in...

Remember that sawmilling operation we rode up through a little while ago...

and did you notice who showed up beside Mike?

We don't need no stinking Alaskan Sawmill here in Ecuador....

The results prove out...

Whats that saying....Necessity is the mother of invention..

And all of this is just a side trip not even on the day's agenda.

So.....we continue down the mountain....

Pass through the town....and guess who shows up?

I just can't believe this dog.

We're headed this way...

Along the way we run into some serious infrastructure improvement projects...

I enjoyed the chain saw milling video as I have done my fair share of chain saw milling!! Its a young mans game Now I take the logs to a buddys wood mizer. Looks like it was the last remaining large logs for miles around.
Hope to get to Ecuador in the near future.
Cheers for the great report!

It's obvious their focus is on erosion control...

The ride out of town was as good as the side trip...

...

Bull fight arena...

...sadly, there's no activity today.

...

Along the way we study the cuts through the earth...

As the geology has changed, so have the people...

The clothing - particularly of the women - is more formal.

We're making our way to Crater Lake...

Word on the street the major infrastructure work is to get visitors to the lake much easier in the future. It's Ecuador's 'Grand Canyon' is how someone described it to us.

In the meantime, we take in all the road building sights...

Someone will have to tell me in a few years if they installed guardrail on that section.

We stop and take a few pictures along the way...

...some require a bit more than a 'drive-thru' set up...

They are moving some serious earth...

...

...

Some of us are fascinated by this stuff.

...

...

Our travels bring us to check point Charlie...

Jumping back a little, this may very well be the longest 'successful' interaction I had with a native Ecuadorian...

All credit goes to Nancy and Greg's guide (who this is). He spoke very good English and seemed fascinated with the bike.

Given the ground we eventually covered, I'm impressed with the hike Nancy and Greg did.
