Yamaha TW200 - Duz I want?

They seem cool and I keep thinking of how cool it would be to have one.

Then I realize I already have two bikes that don't get ridden enough.

Then I go back to CL and search, again, for a TW200. Are they as fun as they look? I think they'd be a mad city bike.

This needs moved to thumpers but....
My best riding buddy thought the same thing. He had a C50 cruiser, and I bought a KLR. He thought, sure riding dual sport sounds like a blast. Plus he has short legs so it seemed like a good fit. In 2 years he put a total of 600 miles on it if that tells you how much he liked it. It really depends on what you want one for. Will they do highway, yes, but they are wide a$$ open. They aren't comfortable for long rides. But if you are looking for a commuter, a back woods beater, a fun bike to tool around some twisties or find some forest service roads...they are a blast. Plus you'll be getting about 90 mpg the whole time with a moderate throttle. Would I let one be my only bike....no way. Would I love to have one in the stable...yes.

Maybe as a city bike, but they are best going through swamps and sand, mud holes and up nasty hills, all at a moderate pace.
Stock, 50 mph is what they like, any faster and the motor makes noise and lets you know it does not like screaming.

As a city bike, big tires to absorb pot holes, good gearing for fast take offs, people can knock it over without damage, electric start.

A scooter might be more useful, but a TW might be more fun.

If you are 5'5" Hell yes, they would be fun as hell. However I'm 6'0" and my knees are bent so much on that thing that it is very very uncomfortable.

The peg to seat distance feels like 12 inches. Make sure you check cycleergo before you get one.

It's hard not to smile when you're riding one but they are pretty gutless. Changing the gearing for a little more top end just adds a few minutes to get to 65

I would imagine they would be good for an the inner city of an east coast city like NYC, Boston, DC, etc. where the traffic doesn't go too fast. SF would be good, but not LA, Phoenix or anywhere in FLA. They'd shine vs. a scooter where the roads are full of potholes and construction plates. Other than that though a scooter would probably be better. The clutch on the TDub can get a little tedious.

I agree with the poster above that they're best for mellow travel through rough terrain. Especially if you're a short rider and not comfortable with one of the taller thumpers.

At 6'2" you would be miserable. However there is hope....someone here on ADV swapped the TW tires onto a BMW 650 Dakar but I can't for the life of me find that thread.

The only downside was he had to keep the rear drum brake.

He loved it from what I remember. I'll keep looking for the thread.

Found it! Now if you aren't a BMW fan I'm betting the technique could be adapted to other bikes as well. A TW/DR650 would be awesome

I am 6 foot tall and I had no problem with the size of the bike.
But I was not riding it for hours on the interstate.

Tw200,great bike,over looked by many.60 mph,no problem.Go to the TW200 discussion forum.com....you'll see."They" know what they are talking about.Again,great machine.

I bought one for my 14 year old son. He outgrew his PW50 then PW80 so it seemed like a cool little dual sport to have. I love riding it and I'm 6'4" and 260 lbs. I know I must look funny on it but it is a blast to ride. You feel like you're zipping along and the you check the speedo and you're doing 40 mph.

Awesome bike, easy to work on and cheap as borscht to run.
