Hmm

So as I ride more on my 950, which is awesome, I am beginning to wish I had something I could push harder. I am6'2" 185 lb and use my Ducati as my commuter. (It sucks, not a fan at all, but is an okay commuter). The SE has steering dampner, aux fuel, rack, skidplate, side stand relocator, single pipe etc. all the good stuff. I liked can ride at 80 on the free way and kick it up on the back roads in order to get to the trails faster...

However, I am bruised and beat and didn't ride hardly at all this weekend,

Is the 500 fast enough to ride on road ? Is the 690 light enough to give up the power of the 950? I like my carbs, especially after owning the Duc, my first ever EfI. Is there another bike I should consider?

The 690 is more than hundred pounds lighter than your SE, and is faster to 100mph than your SE.

I went from an SE to a 690 with no regrets on the trails. It's 50kg lighter, more controllable power and better fuel economy. I sometimes miss the outright power of the SE on the open road but prefer the 690 in all other ways, they're also much easier to service, especially the valves.
