Sorry but I just had to post this link.

Actually I keep surreptitiously keep looking at the 640 Adventure.....but don't tell my Strom mates or they will stone me to death.

What was wrong with the 990? I've never been stranded on my bike for the 70k kms I ride her...

The tow rider has posted on ADV now.

Someone else asked the same question, I'm sure there will be an answer forthcoming before too long.

Link here.

First time I've heard of a KTM coming to a full stop and can't be got mobile again [other than a major problem, and that could happen to any bike in reality].

Turned out to be (something like this anyway) the sprocket spindles had shredded off the driver shaft.
The splines were stripped from the front shaft. Means he didnt tighten his sprocket nut securely and it wore at the splines till they sheared off.

Why didn't they stop in Dalby to get it fixed? At least it would have only been towed an 1/8 of the way across Australia.

Follow the link in my post #3 on this page, it is being updated as things progress and as others post pertinent questions/comments.

el queso;

I would get a tow crane installed on my Wee-Strom, but the few KTM owners I've ridden with haven't had any problems.

I'm the one with the problem......I can't keep up with the f**kers when on the dirt!

I like the he said it took his fuel consumption down to 14km/l (33mpg). That is what normally get on 990 without towing anyone!!!

Dead of boredom

I wonder if the KTM rider has ever gone that slow for that long before? Poor guy, I'm surprised he didn't die of boredom. Can you imagine how slow a V-strom is TOWING something???!!! LMAO!~

I'm not the one who did the towing, it was another inmate from Stromtrooper.

They were towing at speeds up over 100 kph on occasion, most of the time at 95 kph though, I think the OP said.

I sure as shit wouldn't be bored if someone was towing me at those speeds.

Probably the only time a Wee-Strom was exciting to ride.
