Agreed,
unfortunately, not all markets are the same. Just have a look around here in OZ. For eg, a 2010 F800gs is often only 2000 cheaper than a new one, and if it doesnt have the accessories you wanted, then youre paying for someone elses stuff you didnt want anyway. Right now im looking at a standard f800 (not the adventure) and if i want 2010 or newer, then by the time i buy a second hand one and take off the gear i dont like, its only about 1-2000 cheaper than buying new. Being the second hand market that can change at any time, but it makes it easy to justify a new bike if thats the scenario youre in at the time.

?
Given the bikes intended purpose i agree with this as well.
I think most people would be happy to pay a little extra for more adjustablity in the suspension than rebound (rear) an nothing in the forks.

I know looks don't matter, but it's ugly; to me.

ok so aside from the greater fuel capacity, there is also the ESA and the ESA, traction, ABS etc.. with an off road mode sound tempting.. ABS especially.. it allows you to ride with hwy gearing but also ride the back brake while going down steep hills without it kicking everywhere.. Thats something you can't really upgrade.

In terms of the rear shock bolt bending well, if you upgrade the suspension, the germans have built it to take the existing suspension and you will need to add extra support if you run a stronger shock/spring.. Its just part of the upgrade process.

Like when you put a bigger engine in a car designed for a 4cylinder, there is a bunch of teething issues you need to sort out if you don't know about them already.

I think the stock suspension will be sufficient for a while until you outgrow it or take it on jumps/washouts, I got the F650gs threw heaps of shit and that suspension is total crap in comparison to f800 suspension. Maybe just do the progressive spring upgrade for $250 if it bothers you that much.

Come to brasil, the country of the rich!
As you see on TV!
for 22k or 32k, why wouldn't you take the 5000+km ride from the states? or is it not that easy?

Wicked

Sat on a new 800 Adventure at the stealership last night. Tank protrudes pretty well, so racks are pretty much a must.
New windshield with support bar over instruments looks like it will work well for touring.
Front fork felt stiffer than my '10 (?)
Salesman did not know if you can get without ESA & traction control (it just got there)
But the coolest thing by far and away, is that brake lever.
List was just over $15K USD

Gordy - I just got off the phone with a dealer with the same question about ESA and ASC. He's supposed to call me back soon. I'll post up with his response...please do the same!
