Paralysis thru over analysis - Jackets

Sorting out parts, tools and other stuff for the DR for the upcoming trip is relatively easy thanks to some great help here. Buying a jacket and pants not so easy due to numerous choices and conflicting reviews most places I look so if you dont mind could you please help narrow down my choices. And of course I want it all which I know I am unlikely to get. :) :) :)

Waterproof
Warm when it needs to be but breathable
Built in armour (back, elbows etc) or big enough that I wear my 661s under it (least pefered)
Available off the rack

I realise its the Holy Grail so to speak but have looked at the Klim Badlands, BMW Rallye 3 etc. Cheaper would be good but this is critical so if I need to spend the cash I will.

anything made of goretex.

less fashionable in some circles but worth checking out are alpinestars and dainese.

i would look at klim but i want to try it on first. they have 3 different spec suits.

I have the Rukka Summer and Winter jackets and pants. Quite expensive but a great product.

Yep, Goretex, everything else will disappoint, guaranteed.

I can recommend the BMW Rally suits, they are so good it's not funny. I'd wear mine to bed, but then the missus would want one too.

Revit Sand Jacket

Revit Sand Jacket
Amazing Jacket. Best I've owned.
Cool in Summer, warm in Winter.
It has removable thermal and waterproof liners so you can tailor it to suit the conditions.
RRP is $499 in Aust.
Cheaper and better than BMW Rally2 jacket IMHO (I have both)

If you want 1 jacket , with no extra liner to carry, then your choice is easy:

Klim ....just which color / model / price

Or

tiger angel ...just where do you ask them to put the extra vents?

I love my badlands, would probably have been happy with a lattude , but wasn't sure so spent the exta $ , no complaints.

Ps klim replaced my elbow guards free of charge when I mentioned I'd torn them

I just got the Sand 2 to replace the Mk1 version I messed up in NQ last year.
$380 landed from FC Moto in Germany.
Good kit.

How many seasons do you need to cover? [Spring/Summer/Autumn or Autumn/Winter/Spring, or all four seasons]

Klim Traverse jacket and pants.
AdventureMoto

Waterproof [GoreTex] but good venting for summer.
Simply add layers underneath as the weather gets colder, I add thermals-Tshirt-jumper-parka as the temperature drops.

The Tshirt, jumper and parka also double for casual wear on trips when not on the bike [ie. at the pub for dinner ].

I bought my jacket at Aldi for $120 . It works, it's good ... next.

Trousers from Aldi $85 ... good ... next .

Both have armor , liners and are just fine.

Buy something and ride.

Might be ok for a day ride or a weekend ride.

But for a long duration ride where three or four seasons of weather may be encountered then something better is required, especially as space is a premium on a bike- everything has to be multi purpose and guaranteed to work.

The OP sounds like he is planning for an extended trip [colour me jealous BTW].

Thanks EVERYONE for such great input. What has started as a desire to get away for weekends will end up in a 3 week trip, at least a trip to Finke, although not to race. Even started looking at the option of a west to east trip today solo Steep Point to Byron Bay but am thinking that might be too much of a stretch. Based on that Im chasing really good quality. Have found a Badlands Pro for $600 thats been used 2x which seems well priced???

Really appreciate everyone's time to respond to this! Pretty sure what ever I buy will need to be Gore-tex so that rules out the Sand. The Klim Traverse loaded up with the D30 armour and layered up under that appeals as its a similar system to what Im using snowboarding in that its about layers. But is it long enough as it looks short?
