How to disconnect throttle cable from handgrip

What's the best way to disconnect the throttle cable from the hand grip? I have to reroute the throttle cable under the handlebars instead of over the handlebars to accommodate my new steering damper. I've removed the one screw and the cover, but don't know if I should loosen some of the adjusters before trying to slip the cable out of the grip or what.

If your 2012 cable is like the one on my 2007, there should be an adjuster a couple of inches from the grip. If you loosen that it'll give enough slack to remove the cable end from the grip.

Yep, that's the trick. Nice too see that once you twist the grip it reveals a little slot to get a pick (or a cotter pin puller in my case) under the cable to create the necessary slack to remove the cable.

The throttle cable has been successfully rerouted under the handlebar and no longer catches on the steering damper. All's well now!
