Riding and Sailing the Alvord Desert

Took another trip this last weekend.
South East Oregon bound to the dry lake bed is guaranteed to be a fun time!

How cold was it? The Steens look frosty.

Awesome. That place has always intrigued me. I hope to make it out there this year.

Did you make it to the springs?

We stayed down low on the lake bed where it was balmy until the sunset!

The heat of the day may have been 70-almost 80 degrees. Totally flip flop friendly temps!

All of that heat in the desert left us all feeling quite parched so staying hydrated was very important We found Corona and tequila to be the best of cures!

Load up the van and head to the Alvord for 5 days!

Set up base camp.

Some friends came down and brought their sails with them.
This was my first time on one. Wicked fun! Feels like your going 80 when your going 40.

Shootin cans

Did a loop out by Mickey Hot Springs.
You know the waters hot when it's steaming on a 75 degree day.
If fact it was actually boiling.

Nice loop up on the ridge above the springs, then back to camp.

(Damn lens cover stuck)

Desert wildflowers are out.

Great sunsets on the Playa

Hopefully i'll get over to bend sometime & ride your neck of the woods.

Pretty warm! 70-80 in the day 35-45 at night. Still quite a bit of snowpack up in the hills.

You should and we did. The hot springs now have full time caretaker and the the fee is $5 per day.
