Need help. Can't decide

I'm new to the dual sport arena. I've ridden dirt bikes and quads my whole life. Just sold my Harley the other day and want to get back to the dirt but still ride on the road.

I've been looking at ktms but can't decide what to get.

I have 2 that really interest me

2005 525 exc r supermoto that is plated. Approx 4000 miles. Set up for racing, comes with a set of dirt tires and wheels. Among other mods.

2009 530 xc w that is plated. Approx 1100 miles. Plenty of upgrades done on this also.

I weight about 250 and want to be able to ride it to work as well as go bomb trails and FS roads.

Also, would a 450 be to small for what I'm looking to do?

Are there any problems that I need to look for or ask th seller when I go look at them?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Newer is better. I had a YZ450F, that was much faster than I was able to ride it. The KTMs are the same. More than enough. Both those KTMs are excellent bikes.

Orange Crush is for the KTM LC8 V-Twins. I've asked the mods to move this to Thumpers.

I have a KTM 450 EXC. It's fine on the road but regular commuting is going to rack up the miles and the resulting maintenance. It depends how many miles a week you are talking about. Also, I wouldn't want to ride the bike for long distances [several hundred miles of pavement] on a regular basis.

For the two bikes you list, I'd be more inclined to favor the 530 xc-w on the street than the motard on the dirt. The suspension on the motard may be pretty stiff for dirt riding.

Be aware of the 530 split oil cases. About .8 liters on the combustion side so if you are riding it on the street you'll be changing it often. The 450 is the same size, just a slightly different stroke/bore, still plenty of power no matter what you weigh.
